Speakers for Uniti Nova

Posted by: Shawides on 12 June 2018

Hi - I'm looking to upgrade speakers for the Uniti Nova, however there are some constraints that I need to work within (so any suggestions would be welcome).

1.  They need to be off the floor (as I have a toddler), so will be put on brackets off the wall.

2. given #1, they need to be front ported as they will likely end up close to the wall.

3. listening area is 25' x 14', with the speakers facing the longer side with the listening position roughly 14' away from the speakers .

4. Budget c. £2.5k

I'm currently got the ProAc response D2 at home on demo, and whilst a great speaker lacks bass at lower volumes (likely a function of the room size).

The other option is the PMC twentyfive 22 (although that may have the same issue).  Anyone has any thoughts on how both these speakers compare?

The other alternative is to add a  subwoofer?

Many thanks

Shalom

When my kids were little I used a portable play pin to wrap from one end of my system to the other and keep the kids from touching it. Appearance was not awesome but it allowed me to get the best performaning setup so I didn’t have to compromise.

Floorstanders are obviously more stable than most standmounts, and I guess a heavy enough pair will be reasonably stable, especially if they are on spikes into floorboards, which helps to stabilise them.

Many standmount/bookshelf speakers just sit on their supports, so you could easily push them off with one finger. There are exceptions, such as N-Sats, for example. These are quite child friendly on their dedicated stands or wall brackets, as removing them requires them to be lifted vertically up and off the mounting. Add an N-Sub, and you’re sorted - if you can find one!

The brackets I'm planning to are 6' up and can be swivelled 90 degrees, angled down by 15 degrees and take a 20kg load.  As much as I want floorstanders, I will have to wait 5 years for them

I’ve recently bought a Nova and use Dynaudio Special 40 speakers. Very good and better than any floorstanders I auditioned below £4,000.
