Kudos 707/808 vs ..?

Posted by: jverlen on 12 June 2018

I have read a bit on these speakers and they look great.  Unfortunately there seems to be no distribution at all in the US.  Also there don't seem to be any reviews comparing vs other high quality speakers.

Has anyone compared the Titans to let's say Proac D48R, K6, or K8s?  Or other good speakers?

They are a little bit bigger, which helps, but the fact that they're isobaric also adds some additional “weight” and control.

Hi Joe

Obviously I'm hoping that the 606s will bring an overall improvement in SQ to my system. As I've mentioned the S20s are great speakers and in the main I love the airyness and resolution they bring to the mid and higher frequency bands and I certainly hope that the 606s retain this quality.

If they also make some less than ideally mastered recordings more enjoyable to listen to then so much the better.

SJ, I get what you're seeking. My comment was not directly pointed at you so much as an observation that folks here often seek the ultimate resolution with their systems, a sound that gets at the essence of the recording. As you've implied, with lesser recordings this can become "too much information" or a level of resolution not favorably received by the ears. So now treat the system in another regard, say with alternate speakers.

I ran the SN2 and while outstanding with well-recorded music found it too resolving and overexposing of lesser recordings in my musical holdings. Presumably a function of the integrated's pre-amp. Rather than be left alienated from appreciating those lesser recordings I chose an integrated with a slightly warmer presentation. While giving up a bit of resolution or maybe the very "essence of the recording", I gained play that allowed me to genuinely enjoy a far greater lot of my catalog. Great recordings still shine and poorest stuff isn't sugar coated, but recordings in the marginal arena are far more enjoyable.

My latest upgrade was speakers and I hope you find a pair that does the trick for you. Just suggesting that absolute resolve and clarity may not be the best measure of a system's engagement ability.

Thanks for clarifying Joe.

It looks like I've got a bit of a wait for my demo. My dealer sells Kudos but doesn't have a demo pair of 606s so is having a pair built which they'll run in before my demo.

I knew that I should not have started to read this thread - it was supposed to be about Titan 707 / 808

It was, Chris, and that’s where I started too but the 606’s are just so damn alluring...

Just wondering: how do the owners of either 606, 707, or 808 evaluate the performance of those speakers with classical music?

Thank you in advance

I've got the Super 20s and like them for classical. I'm hoping to be listen to the Kudos 606/707s at RMAF ....
