MUSO - Wireless Stability

Posted by: Pepiva on 12 June 2018

Hello, I have advised a friend to purchase a MUSO. She is running Minim Server on a MacBook and using MUSO in wireless mode. She has a bunch of albums on the Mac in low definition and these are played with no interruptions by the MUSO. When she tries to play high definition WAV and FLAC files these suffer long interruptions in reproduction and often they cannot be played at all. Could you please provide help to solve the issue or direct me to an exiting topic in the forum?

Many thanks.

My Mu-so Qb is on wireless (5Ghz) and play hires files from the UPnP server.  The Naim app reports the correct bitrate and plays interruption free.  Tested with 24/192 files.

Sounds like a bandwidth problem that could be caused by a lot of things (distance from access point, interference with other wireless networks, walls in between the Muso and access point, etc).

So you should check the quality of the connection between the Muso and the access point and resolve this accordingly.

Agree with Revolino that this is likely to be an issue with your Wifi bandwidth, Pepiva. Try getting your friend to move the Muso nearer to the router/access point to prove the point. The Muso and Muso Qb both only operate at 2.4Ghz, which limits the bandwidth (compared to 5Ghz), though generally it is sufficient for hi-res files. Assuming that moving the Muso nearer fixes the problem, then you need to consider how to improve her Wifi. Mesh Wifi systems have proven to be a reliable way of providing stable Wifi in a domestic situation, and I'd recommend she look at this as an option. Of course, running an ethernet cable is the best option, but for many this is too disruptive.
