Hi fi rack
Posted by: Fabio 1 on 12 June 2018
Hi all,
I recently upgraded my system by purchasing my new 282 and ND5XS.On my short list there's a new rack for my system.Having spent a considerable sum of money so far,Fraim is not on my mind:I would need a six shelfs combo,a lot of money. What you guys think of Custom Design Milan Reference 10"Acoustic"?I am sure it will better than my DIY TNT rack, but what if compared to,say,an Fraim or an Reference Quadraspire?Esthetically I like this rack very much and I like its price too...
The power of Safari.
Well - I think I’m going to try my chances with it, so watch this space.... I’ll let you know how it goes!

???? Richieroo,...They should be able to do that,if you should make such a big investment, then you will of course want to hear what you get for your money.
Examples,....the Harmony-rack...that is included in the carrying test here, cost at least €4000:- in Sweden with the best shelves.
Of course,..the dealer should demonstrate the difference to other racks. So you know what you're buying for big bucks.
Otherwise,..choose another trader.!

I would like to thank each one of you for your replies. So many inputs so far!I just want to take my time now to get a decision.Of course I will let you know and probably will ask again.Thank you one more time.
Ciao

I suspected it ????.
I have actually run a lot of motorcycle (Gold Wing), in your country,...most in the northern part.
Love the area around Livingo, where I have been a lot.
Incredibly beautiful country.!

Anyone a fan of the Hutter Rack Time? Very well made.
Fraim s/h? For me, it worked. Took time, and the best way was a „search“ advertisment in the „Audio-Markt“.
The Hutter is really expensive new, but incredibly cheap on the s/h market.
The problem with hutter is that the wooden shelves are not always perfectly level with causes problems with Naim CD players with metal feet and unlike quadraapire there is no natural flex as the wood is so thick. So either use some Naim glass and ball bearings on top or get levelling shims.
Some years ago i made a major investment in Mana.....phase 4 rack and phase 4 TT stand for a Linn. What a pile of garbage. Sounded great when initially set up but went out adjustment really fast as the upfacing spikes slowly penetrated the glass shelves, eating small indentations. Eventually each level had multiple holes and needed to be replaced.
There’s a reason Naim use a ball bearing and cup arrangement under their glass shelves. Mana

Has anyone seen the CD FRAIM? I thought it was a thing of myth and legend?!
Yes,saw it yesterday.I occasionally visit that website just to see what’s on the used market.I’ve heard of Fraim but certainly not CD Fraim! Just wonder if it’s as good as the actual thing.
Looks good. I’ve been in contact with the seller and all sounds genuine.
Anyone seen Richard Dane’s? Wonder if it’s the same...

Point taken. I have some of their CD storage units. They’re very good. One of the only ways of keeping all the dust and sh1t build up off my beloved collection!
I use Hutter with Glass shelves and cups and balls four shelves total outlay £400 on the used market, excellent rack.

As I say - new = big bucks, s/h = big bargain.
You really can’t beat it for value for money - the build quality really is superb - I seem to remember they’re all cross veneered for extra timber stability. Doesn’t look like scaffolding either! ????
I've got a great deal of respect for Hutter. Hutter Acustix has done some really interesting work with studios, concert halls and meeting rooms - in fact anywhere that getting acoustics right is of high importance. Armin Hutter is an interesting chap - very nice guy too. There used to be plenty of Hutter racks at the factory, which just shows the high regard with which they were held by Naim for their performance as well as aesthetics.
Any chance of a look at your CD FRAIM Richard???
No CD Fraim here. There was one at the factory (probably the one that's pictured on this thread). It was made as one of a number of alternative promo Fraim related items. It was kind of fun but not very practical (surely any Naim owner would have way too many CDs) and would have been quite expensive.
Sorry - my fault - I thought I had seen in a previous thread that you had one!
Regarding the Hutter - as you can tell - I’m a fan. The build quality of the units that I have really is superb. Strange how badly it holds it’s value considering this...

Not far from the Milan Cathedral?
You might have a look at the Modular Reference Rack from Audio Suspension;
The one in the pic is just an example. You can have it custom build to your specifications at very reasonable prices.
I've got 2 of their Isolation Plinths custom build for my mono amps. Owner is a very nice man who will help you in any way he can.
I bet that’s... fun... to keep clean!

This was just a concept to store cd's in a Fraim kinda way you mean? Did it go to production?

Just as fun as the Fraim glass is I suppose...

Fair point, well presented. I can think of better ways to spend my time for sure! Cleaning 12 sheets of FRAIM glass isn’t a quick job!
