Uniti 2.6.1
Posted by: Obsydian on 13 June 2018
Coming soon see sticky but no mention of DSP changes.
Got it already. I'll have a listen later.
Yes, 2.6.1 (9794) is out.
It will be interesting to see if anything has changed sonically from 2.6. I'm assuming we'll still be able to go back to 2.3 (8574) if needed.
I suspect it's in the thread I started about March/April firmware but could someone who's on 2.6 before updating check the DSP version in the Naim app.
This is listed in the app Settings > About > More and is 1.0.2 for 2.3 (8574). It's definitely different for 2.6, so if it's the same as that in 2.6.1 I suspect no significant sonic change but who knows!
Installing now hoping this is the one ????

Shall we take the plunge together?

Ok, so from page 2 of other thread, 2.6 on Atom and Nova had DSP 1.255.59.
DSP version is 1.0.28.0 using firmware 2.6.2134 ???
Odd the install screen in the app stopped at say 25%, the Nova restarted but the app stayed at 25% ???

That's very interesting, I seem to have firmware 2.6.1(9794) and as you say DSP 1.0.28.
Now I need to shut the family up to have a listen, and may have to do a U turn on allowing the kids to play iPad/Nintendo to get them out of the way and up to their rooms!
Sorry via the Nova, firmware is 2.6.1.9794 and DSP 1.0.28.0, my prior downgrade DSP was 1.0.2.0 and 2.6 was 1.255.59.0
I've not checked for a Naim app update for iOS yet.
Also, there's a glitch with the app or the Uniti not updating the DSP version until you restart the app as mine still listed 1.0.2.

Same here on the Atom, not hearing anything scary so far but annoyingly in my enthusiasm to upgrade I forgot to have a listen to a few favourite tracks first as a comparison
Hmm, quick impression is that it's like 2.6 sonically.
Just playing an album on vinyl that blew me away this afternoon with rich/warm bass and lovely sounding instrument timbre the first time I heard it on LP today vs only via a FLAC stream previously. It was sumptuous a few hours ago, from the first track post update I'm afraid I sense it's just harsh and fatiguing and for the music I could take it or leave it, oddly (or not perhaps) sounds more like the streamed FLAC.
Back to 2.3 and I'm thoroughly immersed in the album again (so's the other half who is now singing along, and annoying the hell out of me!).
I don't think they will roll back the DSP, we have to lump it or leave it, this will be bug fixes, hopefully the one I pointed out to support is sorted.

It may well be that this release was not intended to change anything sonically despite the different DSP version - perhaps it's little different to the 2.6 DSP .
Always thought that DSP going from 1.02 to 1.255.59.0 was an odd progression especially if latest is 1.0.28.
So if we to go by the version numbers it gone backwards. How odd.
I managed to get an hour's listening, going from 2.3.1 to 2.6.1.
I guess firstly Naim will have focus on 2.6, rather than starting from 2.3.1, also no mentioned of DSP fixes only bug fixes in the changelog.
Anyway jumping from 2.3.1 to 2.6.1, I echo Alley Cat thoughts as in more of 2.6.
To me the sound is now odd and unbalanced, heavy bass, hope end sparkle, but a warm washed out midrange. Imagine at toe tapping dealer demo this initially appeals.
I do hope this is an interim bug fix and the DSP to follow.
If not I really think I have reached the end of the Naim road, 2.3.1 is great for me, but without support, not even Chromecast then it's a dead duck.
I went back to 2.3 briefly out of curiosity, doesn’t do much for me tbh, to my ears it seems a tad harsh and congested in comparison, back on latest 2.6.1 now and I find it preferable, also don’t think I’m hearing any discernible difference from previous 2.6

Are you not reverting to 2.3 (8376) - I thought 2.3.1 was when we thought it went bad?
Chromecast is still working for me on 2.3, is it not for you?
Sorry to yes 2.3, for me Chromecast did not work states not supported, as I was waiting to try Qobuz.
Hmm I wonder if this difference some of us hear is down to a fault with the unit somewhere which the new firmware highlights more or triggers it? Might explain the smaller number of us that dont like it compared to those that do.
I am trying 2.6.1. Off topic why is the power light so bloody bright when updating. Its blinding even in daylight.
Kudos to Naim for sorting the issues with the original 2.6 so quickly (for me the disappearance of cover art). In terms of SQ both 2.6 & 2.61 are, in my setup, infinitely superior to 2.3.
Phil Harris responded to my issues promptly and with total accuracy. Good service should be acknowledged as swiftly as the problems which a few carp on about.
2.6. versus 2.6.1 on my Nova. I hear no difference.
