Naim N-Vi only as CD Player

Posted by: angelodipa on 18 June 2018

Hello everyone

I apologize in advance if the request I make may seem a little odd.

I have an N-Vi (fully functional but not used because I now use an AV2 + 175V + 200)

I'd like to know if I can use it only as a CD player by connecting the optical coaxial output to a DAC-V1.

I know that the N-Vi CD quality would not be fantastic but at least I could use it to hear some old CDs still in my possession ...

I also wanted to understand if I risk damaging it if I run it without connecting any speaker.

Thank you

You could do that.  Just note that it's best to set the digital output to 2 channel PCM. Also note that because it's a DVD player, CD handling can be a bit slower and clunkier than a proper CD player.  You might want to try turning off the amp output (IIRC this is possible for when running into a dedicated power amp) and minimising any video stuff in the menus  - you may get better performance that way

fantastic ... thanks for the quick reply ...

What do you mean by IIRC?

Sorry for my ignorance ... is this a function in the menu that i can turn OFF?

Turn OFF any video settings it's a good idea... i did not think about this.... thanks very munch :-)
