Connections 122x + hicap + nap 150x
Posted by: vilco on 19 June 2018
Hi,
I think I made the connections in the right way, but since the sound I got is very embarrassing, a boxed sound, cold without any scene, and without harmonics.
I would not like to have something wrong in the links, someone can kindly tell me the exact connection diagram.
Regards
Sorry for my English
Connection is from NAC122x to Hicap via SNAIC5. From Hicap to NAP150x via SNAIC4. Ensure the banded ends of the SNAICs are closest to the source of the music signal. Also ensure that the units are not stacked on top of one another - i.e. each has their own shelf - otherwise sound can be poor.
What connections have you made? Are all the cables genuine?
Ensure the banded ends of the SNAICs are closest to the source of the music signal.
what do you mean?
Thank you
Nac 122x - snaic 5 (original Naim) - upgrade output to Hicap socket 4
Hicap snaic 4 socket 1 to Nap 150x input
?

The signal goes from the 122 to the hicap to the 150. So have the band (the little ring around the lead at one end) on the Snaic 5 at the 122 end and the band on the Snaic 4 at the hicap end. Use socket 3 on the hicap for this lead, rather than socket 1. Remember that the amps will take a day or two to sound right. Make sure you leave them switched on all the time.
I'll try.
Thank you.
Vilco, if you have just purchased these amps, do you know anything about their history? How old are they, have they ever been serviced or modified? Worth checking this out, in addition to the advice above.
Check the Hicap's history too, if not new. If you email Naim with serial numbers they will be able to tell you if the units have ever been returned to them for servicing etc.
You can try without hc. Does it sounds broken too?
I tried without a hicap...the sound seems quite similar??
HiCaps IME make a significant difference. It may be worth getting your kit checked out professionally to eliminate any faults or mods. I'd start with the HiCap.

I would do the same. There must be a difference.
