New ProAc K3, anyone had a listen yet ?

Posted by: crackie on 20 June 2018

Looking at the ProAc website last night and seen a very brief banner for the new K3. Looks very similar to the D48R in regards to driver set up and similar size cabinet by the looks of it.

Might be tempted to investigate further if the price is right and it is a very clear step up from my D48R.

Has anyone had a demo or know much more about it ? There is next to nothing on this speaker when I do a Google search.................

Cheers, Peter

Interesting indeed. All seems to be in adopting Kevlar with the bass/médium drivers for the lighter and more agile lows of the K6. As far as I am concerned, I tend to remain a bit dubitative as for dual bass driver designs in our typical living rooms of less than 40m2. I still have a little issue controlling my D28 lower end. Note that firmware update 4.6 has helped for that matter. ????

I have the D40Rs.   I had to put them on Herbie's Audiolab Footers to tame the boom in my room.   Now they sound great.  I am not sure I want to go higher up in the Proac line, with Kudos, Magicos and others out there.

Big speakers are tricky.   I lusted after Rockports until I had a demo and hated the rear firing port.

I’ve not heard them yet, but as an owner of the K6 I’m confident they’re unlikely to disappoint you. Contrary to what has been said above, my lounge is approx. 25 sq metres and the K6 bass is absolutely delightful (amp is 250DR). I also splashed out on set of Stillpoint Ultras which improved great to absolutely phenomenal!! I have demo’ed Kudos 707 and greatly prefer the ProAc (never tried or heard Magico).

In a nutshell, if you’ve got the £10,000 (approx) asking price I strongly recommend you give them a listen. I doubt you will be disappointed.

I'll have to have a long demo with these. I am a bit concerned they don't have the fabric dome midrange driver the other K speakers have. So it will be real interesting if they do enough things better than my D48R to justify the upgrade.

I am absolutely thrilled with the D48R and I won't be switching unless I am blown away with the difference.

Thanks to the forum members here, which aided in my decision to go with ProAc D48R. Like CRACKIE, I am thrilled with these speakers. Have not heard the K3.

You will not regret it. Will sound big, ballsy and dynamic if that is what is on your source and also small, intimate and delicate if that is also what is being played. I have upgraded 3x SL cables over 12m on these and they have easily revealed the changes in my system.

Very, very flexible and beautiful speaker in that regard. Enjoy !

Sorry, only just seen this. Ignoring appearance (the Kudos just don’t do it for me!), I found two major differences between the 707 and the K6. The Kudos are very ‘hifi’, transparent and ethereal at the top end whereas the ProAc gives real life instruments in the room with you. In terms of bass, the Kudos isobaric system produces a lot of sound, but once again, for me, the ProAc gives you a real kick drum, a real bass guitar in the room. All my comments are made as a fan of rock, metal, fusion and blues - I rarely listen to classical, and female vocals don’t figure highly on my play list.
