DBL foam grills replacement
Posted by: Emil F on 21 June 2018
Maybe it's time to change the DBL grills. What is considered now a fair replacement?
Have you experienced sonic differences?
Tom-Tom Audio are now marketing sets of new DBL foams. Quite pricey, but not in the context of these speakers.
Hallo Emil,
Has been some time, do you still have your original DBL grills or did they decompose meanwhile?
Greetings, F
Talking about foam grills reminds me that I saw a nice pair of black ash Linn Isobarik speakers in The Sound Org (York) which some lucky customer had just bought.

Most probably this will be my choice.

Hallo Franz,
Yes, these are the original grills, about 15 years old. What a timing, both upper grills came unstuck 15-20 cm two days ago. I can see, that on some places the foam is changing its structure slightly, but I guess grills could be used for some time.
Gruss,
Emil
There is also an American manufacturer that makes dbl.'foam speaker grills'
There's a chap on fleabay who does grilles for SBLs & SL2s. he might be able to knock some up for you
I think Tom Tom only make grills for SBL's? If you want proper accurate DBL grills the best ones will have to come from the US and I think they are about £500?

Hi Emil
Good to see you around still. My grills start to show some signs of desintegration on some edges too. Coincidentally I was informed just recently that TomTom provides dbl grills too. Sooner or later I’ll need to get some replacements too.
Many greetings, maybe we’d meet again at some point, cheers ...f

Yes, Franz, this will be nice.
I ordered the grills from TomTom. I’ll give some feedback, when they arrive and if it’s not against the forum rules.
Best wishes,
Emil
Emil, please do. I'm sure that if James is behind them and they meet his standards then they'll be excellent.
Thanks, Richard! I’ll do it.
Thanks Emil for your update. It’s good to hear the new dbl grills are worthwhile. I may follow soon on this path.

Yes, good to know Emil, thanks for the feedback. Mine are OK for now, but they're developing that slightly dusty feel.
