Russ Andrews treated fuses, any comments

Posted by: Proterra on 22 June 2018

Just got the new Russ Andrews newsletter and it it he suggests not only upgraded mains cables but upgraded fuses as well. Anybody got any thoughts on that .

If my memory serves me correctly RIchad Dane said Naim actually listen to the SQ of fuses used in their products, so spending on Russ Andrews fuses could be a waste of your money.

???? Gazza,...that's right,..but if you have devices other than Naim in your music system, try this if you have the opportunity.

The direction of the fuse has sound/musical significance,it plays better in one direction.
Try listening to the direction of your fuse, many may be surprised now that you hear this.
However,if your music-system is optimized then you should hear this,....no big difference, but it is there.

And as I said, several small differences become a big one.

I've been following Hi Fi since the 70's and over in recent years it has just gotten too silly now.

By all means, try out expensive fuses in your mains plugs (for UK users) but PLEASE DO NOT mess with the fuse inside the kit.

???? Super,.... Do you think that comment contributes to the topic ????.
I hope you do not here on the forum perceived me as some dreamy guy,who just fantasizes.
However, I am someone who tests and tries together with others, and sometimes tells here about what we have come up with.

The technology in our devices is optimized all the time,so today you can perceive things that you could not hear before.Nothing strange at all, the development is moving forward.

Sometimes times you can really convince yourself (your brain) there is a difference, especially when you spend a lot of money on things like this, me included. It's just my personal opinion, i mean no offence.

Absolutely - it how our brains work - not totally dissimilar how we can often see dragons in the clouds when we are looking for them - our brains will try and group and recognise  patterns.

If I tell you this is a picture of a young woman - it then becomes very hard to see the older woman without concentrating

I've seen reviewers  and people claim that their felt mat on their LP12 sounded better one way than the other. More recently some people claim their Hi Fi sounded better when their speaker cables were on small stands or when the cable was resting on foam.....c'mon.

When I added my NAP 300 to the Nova I spent a lot of time getting the burndies just right. Then sat back and played a few tracks and basked in the glory of the improved sound. A lightbulb in my head eventually went off, had I swapped he speaker cables over to the NAP 300...... silly me no I had not. I wanted it to sound better, so I convinced myself for a few tracks that it did. Anyhow not too proud to admit a stupid mistake, got a few chuckles at Signals, my dealer.

When I was a kid, my mum bought some new headphones. My sister and I still get a kick out of our memory of her with them on her ears, smiling and nodding in time to the music. The small problem was that they were not plugged in to the stereo.

Done that one too....

Hence the benefit of double blind testing, strangely sometimes poo-pooed by people claiming some things improve the sound. I’ve never done that at home, though when comparing things that are not immediately very apparent (like one has no bass or has huge sibilance etc), I do use blind testing, getting a family member not involved in listening to do the swap.

£25.00 each or £112.50 for a pack of 5,  but they do come with a free psychiatric consultation.

They bring a sound improvement to RA's bank balance,

???? SUPER,...This is a fact,I wrote about this in some thread here a few days ago.
This knows ALL traders and savvy at LP12,this has been known for decades.!!

Do you have an optimized LP12,then it is no problem to hear this.... believe me.

If you do not have knowledge, tried or have tested yourself...please write then not dismissive ironically....it will then be a little annoying and low level on the forum.

Test for yourself instead of dismissing, receiving the knowledge and experience that is available here.
But as always, you must be very careful with the details when you shall do a test.
I have also written in some thread about details when to test products.

I/we,have never dismissed or commented on something that we haven't tested ourselves,... why should we do that.?
We have then no idea what we are talking about.
Then someone agrees, with the one who has not tested but still dismisses,.....yes it will be even dumber.

Since I started reading this forum I have understood that there is also a lot of knowledge here,...but also an incredible amount of ignorance, things that at least for us in Sweden has been known for decades.

Let us then share that knowledge, the experience we do not have ourselves, with each other... instead of dismissing and being ironic.

I remember my dealer saying that he has a Linn/naim six pack system, which was the best you could get then (6 x NAP 135’S  Isobarik system) and he couldn’t hear the difference. And yes I have tried it because I have that system now (even better) and I can’ t hear anything.
