NDX-2

Posted by: iburnell on 01 July 2018

I've enjoyed reading the thread about the 555 but too rich for me. However must admit the NDX-2 does rather get my juices flowing. Two questions

1. Someone mention Naim roadshows for the above - any thoughts

2. What is the recommended partnering kit - guess trying to work out prices in my mind

Separate subject - why is selling Hi-Fi so taboo?. I you wanted to buy a Porsche you'd look to the owners club to know somebody would have pre-loved it - isn't it the same here with Naim Connoisseurs ?

Regarding selling pre-loved Naim, there’s no taboo, it’s just that Naim don’t want this forum to be used for soliciting sales. I get their point, as elsewhere it often decends into an uncontrolled mess where it’s hard to separate the legitimate ex-owners from wide-boys just trying to shift boxes. I like the sales free  spirit of Naim Forum, as there are plenty of other places where Naim kit is offered. If buying second hand a few dealers specialise and can often offer excellent value kit with the confidence that you know the history.

The problem any web site involved in selling has is protecting its users.  And the development cost for a buying & selling web site is enormous. And once you have your sales site up and running and it's offering high ticket items, the vultures circulate quickly.  And before you know it, someone has been scammed out of a few thousand pounds/euros/dollars and the site acquires a bad reputation.  And once your site has acquired a bad reputation, so has your brand...

...so would I want to add a 'buying & selling' function to my forum if I ran Naim?

btw... I'm selling an ND555... low usage, immaculate condition,  recently been touring the UK... payment by cash only, no cheques, no Paypal. Message me for location for us to meet.

Iburnell, there are no sales or wants on here for three primary reasons;  the first is because Naim wish to keep the forum clean of unwanted solicitation and other commercial interests for the security of members; secondly, in the event of a sale going bad, Naim could potentially feel responsible for sorting things out; and thirdly, Naim would always recommend that the best place to buy or sell your Naim kit is through one of the many independent dealers who carry the brand and equipment, many of whom have many years of experience and a great reputation for excellent service and fair dealing.

I'd add to Richards comments above that 'no sales' helps keep the forum responses regarding gear genuine and objective. No one espousing a certain device with underlying motives of a sale, etc. Good for Naim all around and it makes for unfettered forum opinions.

In terms of the roadshow I think it will depend on how near to launch of the NDX2 is. I would guess that Naim would be adding the NDX2 to the ND555 roadshow some time late a July or August. Best to call Naim or the nearest dealer on the list of shows, can be found on Naim website.

Reason I asked is if I were to go for new kit/NDX-2 then I would want to sell existing kit.

Back to topic what would be amplification kit for the NDX-2?

The outgoing NDX has 202/200 suggestion on Naim website, though I would think a better preamp inc 252 would still be warranted if funds allow.

Anything from SuperNait 2 up should be capable of handling such a good source (well... a potentially good source, as I don’t think NDX2 has been yet ‘heard’ properly).

I see the NDX2 is due a review in the September issue of HFN (Out in August). I'd expect Andrew Everard will be reviewing and as he owns an NDS, the comparison could be interesting

from my point of view

1:  I am going to the ND555 [@mention:1566878603906177] on August, don't think they are demo the new NDX2 which I am keen to hear (see point 2) but I think with dealers "in the summer"

2: I have owned an NDX since 2014 and love it (posted upgrade paths which I felt worked for me on demo)

I have partenered NDX with 202&200 then added HCDR, upgraded to 282,HCDR, 200 and big move to 300 which I had DR earlier this year - so good experience & learnings on NDX (use asset rip to FLAC transcode to WAV)

I am keen to hear the NDX2 to qualify the upgrade from current NDX,  I use Asset the colour display is not really of interest only quality of sound, and on that point recent firmware is a must IMO

NDX is a great source,  and really works with my current system 282, HCDR, 300DR - I don't stream only IRADIO or UpNP

so 2 choices SH NDX or new NDX2?? demo as ever is a must

hope this helps

I don't think you'll be disappointed, Iver.

I thought it sounded excellent and it should keep you satisfied for a long time.

Well you might just want to listen to the new ND5XS2, potentially better sounding than the NDX, all the focus has gone into SQ for the budget, and frills have been removed such as the colour display, or any display for that matter... less to pollute the SQ.

Thanks SImon that might be a plan as I am listening to a lot more Vinyl following LP12 upgrades will ask dealer for comparason on ND5X2 vs NDX2

in no rush at present to change NDX

This thought had occurred to me too. Especially as if I do a further source upgrade, I think it’s more likely that I’ll go for an external DAC rather than a PSU.
