NAC-N 272 UPnP issues

Dear Naimees,

It looks like I cannot stream music to my NAC-N 272 through UPnP.

I am testing the Windows beta version of Audirvana and noticed that when I stream something to my NAC-N 272, I only hear the first second of the song and than it breaks down. Audirvana skips the song and automatically goes to the next song and than it all stops... I can stream the songs from Audirvana to my television (LG EG910V) with the same settings.

As Audirvana is still beta software I did some other tests.

As I could stream music through UPnP to my old UnitiLite with an app called MConnect, I've tried this app again to stream songs to my NAC. To my surprise this also didn't work out. When I press play in the app, I see Connecting on my NAC but this stops after two seconds and nothing has been played. Streaming to my tv with Mconnect does work.

So I checked the logs on my firewall to see if I can work out what the problem is. I've noticed a spree of lines from my laptop (Audirvana) to the NAC with TCP FINs. Also when I wanted to stream from my iPad (Mconnect) to the NAC I've noticed the same lines.

I understand this has something to do with closing down the TCP session due to a unsuccessful TCP handshake.

And last but not least, I did get a ''Fault 36 DSP ERR 3 - MuteConfirm'' after my first attempts of getting this to work. I must say that it only happens once, after a reboot of the NAC I couldn't reproduce it anymore, but maybe it's important to get this to work.

Maybe a fellow NAC-N 272 owner could do a small test with either Audirvana or Mconnect to check if it works for them?

And hopefully we can solve this problem without concluding it has something do to with the hardware of my NAC.

Fault36

Fault 36 cannot merely be ignored.  Fault 36 on my NDS, when it was happening a few years ago, shut down all ability to play music.  Firmware upgrades from Naim fixed this, and the fault error has not occurred now in about 2 years since they made that firmware upgrade available.

Try reinstalling the firmware, but if the fault persists or recurs, then that strongly suggests a hardware fault.

So I’ve emailed Naim Support showing my concerns about the Fault 36 and got a (fast) response from Phil Harris who reassured me. He tells me that the Fault could have been caused by a short power shortage / brownout and that the Fault should be resolved with a power down, power up. He also told me that this certainly is a different case than the Faults showing with the NDS/NDX devices.

Still having problems with UpNP streaming though... Any other NAC-N 272 owners with the same issues?

OK, it looks like I need to finetune the settings of my firewall/router.

I just succesfully streamed through UPnP from my iPad and laptop to my NAC by placing all devices in the same vlan. Audirvana did crash after two songs but hey, it’s still in beta.

Strange thing is that my TV, to which I could stream successfully to through UPnP is also located in its own vlan and it has the same multicast routing settings as all other vlans.

Fortunately I now can tick of a hardware issue of the NAC.
