Speakers

Unfortunately one of my mid drivers failed in my pmc gb1is the other day. No I was not playing it that loud...

Anyway, while I was waiting for the replacement driver my dealer lent me some neat iota alphas.

Once I had got over how small they were I was very impressed by their fun and fast presentation. OK not big enough to fill my room but still a good listen.

Anyway long story short.  Have organised a demo in a week with my gb1is a new pair of pmcs 24s I think and a pair of neat iota xplorers.

Has anyone, or is anyone using xploras and if so how do you find them.

You might just want to consider upgrading your CDP or getting a DAC. It is not of the level of your 252/300. ????

Chag. That's helpful Thankyou. I mainly use my ndx xps2.

I know we tend to recommend what we use ourselves but it does strike me that Kudos S20 should be on your shortlist.  I use them in a lesser system than yours and I am delighted with them.

Assuming you are on the South Coast you are welcome to come and listen to mine.

Great setup with a lot of options.

With your system you could support a big speaker upgrade.   Would love to hear what you think about the Explorer.   You might prefer something further up the line.

Have you looked at a Superline?

Totally agree, S20’s should be at the top of your shortlist. Designed and voiced in conjunction with the 300, too.

Just saw a pair at a well-known Leicester-based dealer at a good price.

If this thread is really about speakers, you might also want to consider quite a few other British brands: ProAc, ATC, Harbeth, Spendor, Wilson Benesch, B&W... ????

But if you like transmission line bass, there is not much to choose from, so an upgrade to the GB1 would be an obvious place to start - and if it were me I’d only consider secondhand or ex-dem to maximise buying power, though auditioning can be less easy.

I own 20.24s and they are good but they are easily bettered by the 20.26s. Farnthorpes have some at knock down prices.

Dynaudio special 40s worth an audition.

If you like acoustic music, whether folk, jazz or classical, give some Shahinians a listen...

Thanks for all the replies. Will have a look into. Unfortunately at the moment I'm struck down with illness so no auditions. Haven't even got the energy to pick up my replacement driver. No music here. Sad times

No demos. But normal service resumed at home after my son collected the drive unit for me. At least I can be ill with decent music now

Kudos Super 20. I’m probably biased in more then one way but I know several people who bought them as “last-speaker-ever”. Well, not sure that will happen but you get my point.

Also, sounding AWESOME with 552/500 at my home.
