Tidal renewal
Posted by: Japtimscarlet on 16 July 2018
Hi all
I know this has been mentioned in the past ..but don't know if it was even resolved
Tidal offer ( new members ) a 6 month (seven months with the free trial month) one off payment scheme that works out at about £16.60 a month. I know this because I have used it twice already.
The pain is ..you have to create a new account each time with new email address...not the end of the world ...but a pain loosing all your saved artist / albums.
Is there a way round this yet that anyone has found? I have contacted customer service with no luck..
Any help appreciated etc..
Pay another £3.39 a month and keep the same account - works for me.

Sorry
That doesn't work for me...

£40 a year saved could buy a few albums, or a bottle of malt or some wine to aid listening...
or, instead, the whole £240 could buy quite a lot of albums, while still being able to sample new music on one of the free services.... works for some.
You pays your money and you takes your choice. Personally, I find it good value and changing accounts/emails etc. is more trouble than it’s worth.
Exactly
What I'm asking is has anyone found a work round for this ?
I DO know I could pay up and shut up ..so please stop telling me that...

It's not a fault though is it? A 'new' account is just that, surely?
So you can't keep your saved albums etc.
There are savings to be had - Premium £9.99 per month. Job done.

Student?
There is an app that I used to import all my mrs playlists from Apple Music to Tidal cannot remember the name though try google.
I contacted Tidal some months ago to ask if there was a multi-month saving to be had, but no, nothing.
And doesn't the integration with Naim only work for the Hifi subscription?
Don't think they have student rates either.
When I signed up I chose paypal as the method and am charged in $19.99 dollars which gives a discount of sorts. Mind you I’ve mentioned this here before so perhaps it’s a loophole that’s been closed.
I often paid £20 for one CD so I’ve no difficulty with Tidal’s charges.

They have student rates here in the states. I'm using it now.
Unfortunately not a student.
I am listening to Tidal Premium as I type via my 272 and for my purposes it's perfectly acceptable.
We have a few Sonos speakers and a family membership (£14.99 pcm).
Tidal won't let me mix and match between HiFi for the 272 and premium for the Sonos and I cannot justify double the cost when we won't benefit via the Sonos speakers.

I'd be using Tidal HIFI on the 272 and 'free' Spotify on the Sonos.
The Tidal website doesn't help either. I have real trouble finding any details of its offers / packages. I'm presuming the Premium offer isn't CD-quality, whereas Hifi is.
Ah, I've now found the details on the website - you have to start the sign up process! And you're right, there is a student plan. There's a also a family plan, although the standard plan does allow you to sign into multiple machines (up to 5?) - I guess the limitation is that you have to share favourites, playlists etc.
One thing to watch though, originally I downloaded the ios app and signed up via it to HiFi, it was €25 (euro) which I thought was a little steep, then looking on the website it quoted €19.99. I contacted support, who in fairness were responsive and helpful, and they confirmed that if you sign up via the app its more expensive!! So their advice was to cancel my subscription and open a new account via the website which I did and got the €19.99 price! When I sort a CD/ Ripping system I'll probably change from HiFi to Premium as I could buy a CD a month for the difference.
Gavin,
It was a while ago that we set the family plan up. Both myself and my daughter have separate Tidal logins but paid for under one monthly DD at £14.99.
I can be listening in my room and she can listen to something else in her room. I don't see her playlists under my login and vice versa.
Nowadays, I only really use it for discovering new music as recommended under another thread on this forum etc.,
For now this works for us and I would be disappointed if Tidal were to go under.
I've got a Hifi subscription at £19.99/month. I'd readily take up an offer for an upfront payment for multiple months to reduce the overall cost per month.
I do only use it for discovering new music so at some point I might consider 'downgrading' to the cheaper service.

And hence my original post
I too would happily pay £16 or so ..but think £20 is a bridge to far. So I have been using the one off payment and getting 6 (7 with month free) months at a time ...it's just a bit of a pain noting down favourites at the end of the period and want a work round
Surely it's not too much for tidal to offer a little reduction for the commitment from the customer to pay up front ...after all ..they could fold in the first month and bye bye my payment...
I have been using the Hi-Fi subscription and paying NZD29.90 per month and generally find it good value incidentally the service is very reliable here with no noticed dropouts. Overall the subscription is about the same as I would spend on CD's per month which I've largely stopped doing. However recently I noted that there is a distinct lack of local NZ music being released on Tidal that I see being being available on Apple Music, I generally like to support local artists so will make the effort to find a CD copy but I might entirely miss a release just using Tidal.
It has lead me to go back and compare Apple Music service vs what I get with Audirvana + Tidal vs Apple Music. Sonically Tidal is a significant improvement over Apple music, it may be that Audirvana is contributing to this improvement but since there is no integration with Apple music I can not say. The Apple tracks sounded flat and harsh in comparison, I noticed this first on my KEF X300A speakers that I use for my computer listening and then confirmed on my main system. In the course of this I also compared MQA tracks @ 24/96 to tracks I had ripped from CD's @16/44.1 overall I preferred my CD rips as being cleaner and with more life and bounce. (I have previously compared the same MQA and non-MQA tracks both sourced from Tidal and gave a slight advance to MQA but it was a pretty minor difference in my system maybe with a more revealing DAC I would hear more of a gap but that's a different discussion.)
So now I'm torn between choosing a cheaper streaming option to audition new music and return to CD's for the keepers to sticking with the Tidal status quo, a cheaper yearly subscription would definitely swing it Tidal's way.
You could also try the Hi-Fi family membership which is £30/month. However if you have a Frien...... I mean 'Family member' that also wants to have Tidal, you can share the membership, split the cost and still have your own account..
Just sayin'
That's great advice domtom
If only I had any friends....
