Nac N372 starts to make sense

It would only take an NDX2 as starting point but instead of the power supply, it would have a 272 preamp stage fitted in, as well as a digital volume knob. Could this be feasible, selling wise? The demand should be there..
You're probably not far off Dan with that description. The 272 has been a good seller and a very nice addition to the line up. I'd have thought that once the new streamers are released then attention would turn to updating the 272 to bring the streaming section into line with the rest of the streaming range (which now use the new NP800 streaming module). Freshen up the looks too with the new display and 4 button setup as per NDX2/ND555
It will make sense and in some point in time the change to a NAC-N 272-2 or NAC-N 372 (what's in a name?) will be inevitable I think ... I have no further information but I assume that indeed first the new streamers will have to be released in order for things to progress any further.
While there will very likely be a 272.2 - using the new streaming platform - it’s a 372 that is really interesting. As Dan says, a streaming preamp with no onboard power supply and the ability to take both feeds from a 555PS would be wonderful. The question is whether Naim can make it sufficiently better than the 272, given the constraints of the streamer and preamp in one box, and if they can whether they will, given the impact on other products. I’d like to be able to improve my system but with no more boxes, and I suspect a lot of others would also like to. It’s something I’ve promoted to Trevor Wilson and Steve Sells when I visited the factory earlier in the year. Let’s wait and see. Fingers crossed. It would fill the gap in the range between NDX2.2 and ND555 rather nicely.
I couldn't agree more HH. I currently have a 272 with 555DR PS and active atc 40's. As much as I'd love to hear the improvement that the NDX2.2 and ND555 will bring, I'm not willing to add a separate pre-amp as I want to keep the box count as low as possible. It would be good to know if a 272 replacement is on the way, otherwise I'm tempted to try the Linn Klimax DS.
New "3" series components have made sense for a very long time now.Look at one of the "full features" of both 282 and 252 - a second row of buttons primarily to redirect to a recorder. A good idea is if it sounds good now,get it now . It can be a very long wait til a new 3 series comes about. Having said that ,it will probably be introduced next week (or sooner)
Yeah, I don't like the proliferation of boxes, which is why I have a 272, many people can't have all that proliferation anymore or just plain don't want to. The fewer the better, I really like the whole Linn Exakt idea, if it wasn't for the fact it sounded totally lifeless and dull and the speaker options are shit. There is zero reason in this day and age you can't design a device that does not require a power supply that costs more than the whole unit to sound good. Devaliet has gotten very very close, I hope Naim as they continue to improve their tech get there.
I do look forward to an updated 272 with the new streaming tech. The 250DR/272 I think is a real sweet spot in the Naim world.
