SCHIIT LYR2,...Tube Headphone Amplifier.?

???? SCHIIT LYR2,..Headphone-amplifier,Dac and Pre.

A headphone-amp with tubes,is there anyone here who has listened to this.?

You can use it with everything from Hifimann-lurking to Utopia.
I have never listen to a tube headphone-amp,so it would be fun to possibly test this or something else with tubes to the headphones.

I have had many common tube amplifiers, but never to headphones.
Therefore,this feels interesting to evaluate.

Have talked to a guy who drove this Lyr2 to Fostex TH900 MK2 and also Audeze LCD 2.
But it would be fun to get more opinions, before I make decisions if this is worthy of testing.

Anyone have experience with this.?

Moderated Post:  Peder, I have removed the explosion avatar from the title - some members find it rather challenging, and I reckon it's not entirely necessary anyway. I have also removed the link - please don't post unauthorised links to commercial sites, review sites etc.. in the Hifi Corner, thanks.

PEDER:

I currently have a Lyr2 connected to a Schiit Yggdrasil DAC .. fed by a NAC NDX .. I use Sennheiser HD 650 headphones.

Great sound, lots of texture and detail.  I had never heard a tube Headphone amplifier either and reasoned that if I didn't like the sound I could swap out the tubes for the solid state alternatives ..

I may be wrong but I believe the Lyr2 is no longer sold but has been replaced with the new and improved Lyr3 ..

???? John,.....Interestingly,why I ask is...it's a guy just 40 km from me selling a Lyr2.
I did not know that it has come a Lyr3,have you heard Lyr3 or read any review about it.?

I read on about LYR2 last night, and it should apparently be very powerful...

Have you tried different tubes in your Lyr2,...in the link I attached,it says that the difference can be large between different pipes.
If you get the synergy to sue in a piping system so it can be magically good, therefore I became interested to try.

Get the 3!

I have a Mjolnir 2 and Focal Utopias. It is a good piece of kit. I like it. Paired with my Nova. Only problem is I need to unplug the speakers to use it. Sounds miles better than the headphone out on the Nova.

Peder:

Let me answer your questions in the order you list them.

1.  I have not heard the Lyr3

2. I have not tried different tubes in the Lyr primarily because the sound with the tubes it came with was very good but also because "tube nut" friends of mine say that once you start "tube rolling" .. i.e., substituting other tubes it becomes addictive and not good for your health

My recommendation would be:

The Lyr2 sold for around $445 .. you should be able to buy one for around 1/3 of that price used.  Buy it and if you like it, keep it .. if you like it a lot and are intrigued as to how the Lyr 3 sounds but a new Lyr3 .. if you like the Lyrics 3 sell the Lyr2 , else sell the Lyr 3 and keep the Lyr 2.

◾ 1. Richard,...I didn't think the link was commercial,I really looked after before I added it.
I've have read the full FAQ-section earlier.
But apparently it was,so here I missed something....excuse me.

◾ 2. "Some members find it rather challenging"

????, I've probably got a pretty clear picture of which these "some members" are.
Are you so conservative so that you do not accept individuality and a little different layout,...well then maybe you put your time on the wrong things ????.

But it is okey Richard,no problem.....Have a continued nice summer.

Peder, It may be about particular members tastes, but it could be something rather more serious.  For example, some members like to post animated Gifs - particularly as Avatars, without considering that some people find these really difficult, and in extreme cases they can act like strobes and trigger some bad physical reactions.  So if a member has a particular issue with icons, GIFs etc.. as Administrator I must take note and sometimes take appropriate action to ensure no harm is done.

In this case, while I doubt anyone would have such a reaction to your explosion icon, it did receive some complaints and was a bit OTT and unnecessary.  Surely you don't really need such things to attract attention to your thread?

There was a bit wrong in my previous post,I am doing a correction...se below.

It was absolutely not directed to Richard,..but to "some members".

I wrote like this......

It should be "they" instead of "you",as I was referring to "some members".
Sometimes it gets wrong with the nuances.

This is an international Forum, not a private club for some who have been with here a long time (this has also been pointed out by other members in the past I have seen).
I personally would NEVER come up with the idea,..To write to the moderator if someone adds a "smiley".
Then you probably take yourself a little too seriously, and have far too much time, which you do not know what to do with.

I am also a administrator and moderator of a Forum.!!

Everyone has the right to write and use the layout that they want,...that is what characterizes the "free word" in a free democratic society.

Want someone, some play "language cops".... it is so petty, and says quite a lot about you who do it. Preferably indulge in that business elsewhere,....it is my opinion.
In Sweden, one would classify such behaviour that you devote to...to approach the term "bullying"....I think it's called so in English.

I will continue to assert my right to free speech, and to use the layout I so desire.
It should all realise that it is the obvious right of every person.

I never thought I would have to write these words year 2018.

Over and Out....
