Music store access

Dear All
 
I have a Unitiserve SSD. So far, I seem to have spent more time attempting to deal with network problems than actually listening to music...! (at least the device plays cds). I started this as a beginner on networks and IT more generally. 
 
I have Virgin Superhub 3 and QNAP TS-412 NAS, with a TP-Link switch connecting the Unitiserve to the router.
 
What would cause the Unitiserve music store to be intermittently demoted to a share, even with the store named by IP address please? In fact, it ought not to be necessary to name a share by IP address, but at a point in time when set up, the Unitiserve would connect to the store only by fixing the IP address in its name. Is this an SMB problem, and if so, what is the solution please? I need to narrow it down to router, Unitiserve or NAS by troubleshooting-no other obvious problems with devices other than the Unitiserve.
