Should I replace this interconnect cable?
Posted by: Mike1951 on 24 July 2018
My interconnects are two Chord Shawlines and an inherited (older) Chord Chameleon.
Would there be any cost/benefit performance value in changing the Chameleon to a Shawline?
Depends also on the rest of your system, which is a guess since it’s not in your profile :-)
At the risk of stating the bleedin’ obvious, all that needs to be done is to swap one for the other and seeing if there is any difference.
Swap them around, you mean? The Chameleon connects the preamp to the 'Hicap'. The single-cable Shawline connects the streamer to the preamp. The other Shawline is an 'Aray' from the 'Hicap' to the power amp. How would swapping them around make a difference?
ND5XS /XP5XS /NAC282/ FLUFFYTOY HICAP/ NAPSC/ NAP250HD /Chord Epic speaker cable/ ATCSCM19's.
As i believe the OP did when he chose the chord interconnects over naim's own,
You did that way ,right Mike?
I don't know why this is such a difficult question. If I replace the inherited Chameleon with a brand new Shawline to connect the 282 to the 'Hicap', will the sonic improvement be enough to justify the expense? Do you think?
Interconnects don't connect to Hicaps, only SNAICS do that.
It’s a shame that you didn’t give the complete information in the first post. An interconnect is used to connect a source to a preamp. What you are talking about is a third party 5 pin Snaic. There is no point getting stroppy if people cannot work out what you are asking based on incomplete information. What’s wrong with using a proper Hicap and the Snaic that comes bundled ‘free’ with it?
It's getting hot in here.
It’s nice and cool in the garden. But..... why do people ask dopey questions, not bothering to provide relevant information to enable others to provide helpful suggestions, and then mither that the answers aren’t helpful? The value of answers is usually proportional to the value of the question, and if people cannot be bothered to ask appropriately then the answers that follow will not be that useful. In this case I neither know nor care. Why did I bother in the first place? Heaven knows. But I won’t make the same mistake again.

If you sang that against some nice jangling rumpus. could be a hit on top of the pops.
The PSU is not a Hicap either. The chap needs to read the forum rules.
I wouldn’t shellout for a shawline.
The Chameleon is quite adequate. I have one but I can’t find the bloody thing.
"The Chameleon is quite adequate."
Ta fatcat. Precisely what I was looking for.

That'd be great, thanks. ????

To take a contrary view, I think you might find it makes a worthwhile improvement.
I know nothing about the circumstances you are considering, but I had a mix of cables that included Chord Chorus interconnects and Odessey speaker cable. When the chance came to move to Epic and Epic Reference, the final arbiter was dearly beloved stating things were clearer, the tunes easier to follow.
