Naim Allae vs Focal Chorus 816 v after 1 month of use

Posted by: Robiwan on 29 July 2018

Been very happy with the Focal Chorus v 816 as a replacement for the Allaes. After more than a month of use i have not experienced one second of unrest/fatique. The Allae are sold and the owner is very happy with them (nac272/nap200).

They are placed at the exact same position in my living room as the Allaes. Placement of the Allaes was finetuned by my dealer last september. Sound is very clear, open, full, prat, no grain, it is all there. More to my likings than the Allaes ever where. They play everything very well from house to strauss

Hi ROBIWAN

Like you,I switched about 5 months ago from Dynaudio special 40s to Focal Sopra 1s.I owned the 40s for about 6 months before switching, and I still think the 40s are great speakers, the Sopras are in another league. The 3d like soundstage and detail is far superior with the Focals, and like you,I experience NO fatigue at all.I am 53 next month,so maybe my older ears are not hearing what some members here seem to dislike about Focal, but I couldn’t be happier with my switch.I just added a Naim DC1 cable (last week) between my Core and 272,and man it is all working together well now.For the price though,Dyn special 40s are hard to beat!

ROBIWAN, congratulations on your purchase, I used to have a pair of the 816’s a few years ago and enjoyed them immensely, It’s great they are working so well in your room, enjoy
