Nagaoka 102 Anti-Static Record Sleeves
Posted by: Alley Cat on 29 July 2018
Have used these almost exclusively for many decades.
Having bought several LPs recently and unable to find the older sleeves I got some from Amazon which have just arrives in an enormous crumpled cardboard box.
Some online Amazon reviews suggest they are no larger and don't fit in the inner sleeve.
The sealed set of sleeves I've received do not have the No. 102 printed on the outer sleeve but looks to all intents and purposes genuine.
Any thoughts?
Hmm, maybe they no longer make 102's:
Looks like the are RS-LP2's
In the image above also note the absence of the 'A' logo before the Nagaoka name.
Stickers on the back suggest they come from Nagaoka's European site:
I have to wonder if those who say they are 1/2" to big ordered the sleeve for the whole album not inner sleeves?
I usually get mine from Diverse vinyl. To be honest I have not noticed any difference in size in respects of fitting inside existing inner sleeves. I will check the black cover on my last batch tomorrow and report back.

Thanks, I suspect I'm worrying over nothing.
Just checked and my latest batch looks exactly the same as your second photo.
No mention of 102 or an A preceding Nagaoka.
i must be honest I hadn’t even realised the subtle change. The inner sleeves themselves are fine as far as I am concerned.

Mine too. The sleeves are fine and "feel" no different.
Alley Cat, If its any help, as a try out, I've just bought some Katta 12" LP Anti-Static Inner Sleeves as an alternative to Nagaoka102 and Mobile Fidelity Original Master Sleeves, and I actually think they are a little better as they don't seem to wrinkle up as easily as the 102’s often did (perhaps a heavier gauge polyethylene), plus the LPs slip in and out really easily. A little cheaper too.

Thanks for taking the time to check.

Thanks Guinnless - I think it was some comments about sleeves being 1/2" too big that threw me on Amazon - I think those must be outer protective sleeves for the whole album.

Thanks for the recommendation Yetizone, will take a look when I run out next.
I was put off the Mobile Fidelity ones due to comments on a greasy substance inside some of the sleeves.

The recent packet I bought had zero greasy residue (also read about it). Its just that the MF batch I received felt so damned flimsy and split easily that I looked for an alternative. I really like those Kata sleeves in the pic - and believe they are bringing out their own version of Mobile Fidelity sleeves too.
I use these, don't know if they are as good as 102's, but good enough for my records.
£14 for 50 from a well known auction site or amazon.
Thanks to YETIZONE's recommendation I've purchased a pack of Katta ones. As I clean each record I replace the old antistatic sleeve with a new one so I'm getting through quite a few just lately.
I'll report backache they arrive ☺
Having filed a number of recent purchases last night my only observation with the new Nagaoka sleeves is that they seem to be 3-4 mm longer in height than the original ones compared side to side, such that they protrude by that amount from the inner sleeves - perhaps a batch to batch variation but otherwise they seem similar.
Have always used Nagoka without problem, also worth a look and considerably cheaper are the Tonar inner sleeves, very similar to Nagoka
I found the Nagoaka 102s to be a PITA as they are difficult to open and somewhat ironically seem to attract static and stick to everything.
There are lots of alternatives to chose from, I like the square sleeve ones with the plastipap inner.

Cleaned about a dozen records today and used the Katta sleeves to replace the old Nagaoka/Tonar ones. It's all good as far as I'm concerned I'll certainly be buying these in future.

Glad you like them Guinnless. Those Katta sleeves are a very good alternative to the Nag 102. Plus, Katta are supposed to be introducing their version of the Mobile Fidelity Original Master Sleeves too. Looking forward to trying when launched also.
