2nd system for office
Posted by: Zackwater on 01 August 2018
Need advise on a second system for the office. Looking at one of the “all in one” players with bookshelf speakers. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Office is long and narrow.
Qute with a number of speakers. I use Totem Mites and a sub with mine. Plays much bigger than it looks like it should.
I wouldn’t rule out the full size Mu-So for an office, they’re suprisingly good and will easily fill a biggish room, looks cool too. I regret trading mine in but I really had no use for it once I upgraded.
Really using this as an excuse to buy a pair of the bookshelf ATC’s.
Depending on the space - Muso might do "it" for you. Or a Qute2 and some bookshelf speakers.
Totem Mites were too little speaker for me, but there are a zillion options.
Add a NAP100 if so inclined; I did.
Ask yourself how much time you will spend listening in the office. I do 95% of listening in there via a UQ2 and Qacoustics 3010 bookshelf speakers.
5% of my listening on something that cost more than 20x that.
I should have spent more on the office system in hindsight.
Room details with speaker positions would be helpful, but a general recommendation is UQ2 or Atom with Audience The Ones (or ClairAudient 1 + 1s), plus a REL subwoofer (T5 mininum).
Atom + Neat Iotas.
Original Uniti and pair of n-sats make me very happy
For about six years or so I have been using a unitiqute with nsats in my study. Now planning on using them with the telly downstairs and having something better in the study - where I spend many hours working from home
SuperUniti and LS3/5A speakers...
best

+1
(I use a Muso Qb in my study.)
The OP says this is an excuse to buy bookshelf ATCs. This implies a real system, not a muso.
Going back to my earlier comment on choosing a system based on how much listening time it will get, I might suggest that if funds allow a Nova might be more appropriate. And if space not so limited and a rack can be accommodated, why not go for a stack of separates of some description?
FWIW, if I move, I'm thinking of adding a NAP100 and sticking PMC DB1 on the end of it. For the amount of time I spend in the office, it would be justified.
Can the OP share how this office will actually integrate with their listening habits?
Is this a guessing game ?
If this is an excuse to purchase ATC bookshelfs why not just focus on these and decide the "all in one" must be a match for these powerwise ?
I assume OP will stream ? Will he need cd, radio, vinyl replay ? And what stream method ?
Lack of information tbh (allthough he told the office was narrow and long ???? )
I own a UQ and a SU. I think the UQ is more than capable enough for an office system. It drives speakers surprisingly well and given it is likely that a lot of the time music will be in the background rather than for focused listening (?) I doubt you NEED anything better.
mind you - seeing SU second hand for £1500-1700. THAT is bang for your bucks
I'v just moved my UQ2/NAP100 to a 4m x 6, office for a media room setup with a large TV, works really well.

Will use streaming only. The room is long and narrow, maybe 40 feet by 12 feet. Music will be played at a level where conversation is not compromised. I really want to try the bookshelf atc’s But want to keep total price $5 to $8K tops. Would like to purchase Naim, but really need to keep components to as few as possible.
broadly, two options:
1. one box + speakers -> Atom or Qute (assuming you stay with NAIM)
2. more "boxes", probably better sound with less cost
- Sonore microrendu or SoTM SMS200 as "network to USB bridge"
- your choice of USB DAC (simplest option: AudioQuest Dragonfly, various Schiit DACs, pricier options like NAIM V1 or Mytek Brooklyn... tons of options here...)
- a small form factor power amp (NAP100 or Schiit Vidar)
I am VERY happy with my combination of SoTM 200 -> AudioGD DAC -> Dynavox VR-307 amp -> SystemAudio 705 speakers
Have thought of upgrading the speakers, looked at ATC SCM11 but they need a powerful amp.
If you can afford it how about a Nova with ATC 11s - the Nova is a superb one box solution with the latest streaming platform and the ATCs are good value and sound great to my ears. I bought a pair recently to replace my much loved n-Sats and for me they are a lot better. You will also need some decent stands or isolation pads. If you need more power in a big office you could always add a 250DR but it’s probably not necessary unless your ears tell you otherwise

I’ve just upgraded to a Nova for my main system in the Lounge, paired with Forest Signatures and a Core. My other system is now in the office with a large TV for a media room setup, running UnitiCute2/NAP100/Hawk. I decided on this route rather than a second system for the office, because It meant two better outcomes for the outlay.
Muso or QB. Both sound remarkably good for their size and have loads of facilities. Admittedly expensive, but top performers.
Uniqute2 w/ dynadio x12 vdh cable.
Thats what i have and works great.
