Hello everyone,

I'm not new to Naim but I am to this Forum so just a quick "hello" to introduce myself.

Cheers,

Jon

Welcome Jon

Hi Jon, welcome to the Naim forum.

Hopefully you've had a chance to read through the rules and take a look though the FAQ.  That done, perhaps you could use this thread as an opportunity to tell us a bit about your Naim journey thus far...?

Welcome Jon

Hi Jon,  welcome to the forum,   I see you're from Banbury so we are near neighbours.   How about posting your system, likes & interests on your profile.

I think I'm pretty well-versed on the rules Richard and thanks for the warm welcome.

I moved from an all-Linn system to Naim about 13 years ago and I've never looked back. The set-up has remained the same since its initial purchase and still gives me the same joy today as it did then, though I am looking to upgrade and service the amps and power supplies soon.

I've got a 200/282/CDX2 based set-up powering a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.3SE's all connected together with Chord Epic and an Anthem on the CD player. To my eternal shame and embarrassment I sold my LP12 several years ago for peanuts as I actually preferred the CDX2 and was convinced that all my vinyl would make it onto CD. That it did, apart from my extensive 12" collection - so I'll be in the market soon, probably going for a head-to-head between Rega and Linn.

Hi Jon, welcome aboard. I'll wave in your general direction as I drive to Cropredy later in the week.

Indeed welcome [@mention:76469591777888342] it’s a friendly place alright, even a few posters with no Naim products hang around also.

13 years without an upgrade, impressive, gives me an idea for a thread.

Welcome Jonners good to have you along. Enjoy browsing the forum.

One of the reasons I've not upgraded is because my system was boxed up in the loft whilst my daughters were in their early years, the fear of "finger in tweeter" and "burger in the CD drawer" syndrome. A house moved has prompted it to come out of purgatory and I joined the forum in the hope of picking up some tips on what upgrades there are available 13 years on.

Welcome Jon....., yes a pity you lost your LP12 along the way, but you always can try to get it back. I would assume you wouldn’t go for a Rega, but anyhow. You have a nice balanced system as it stands, so let’s know if you have any questions.......we happily will advise you that real life only starts with statement and ND555 ....., but be smart and read between the lines....

Yes, thanks Bert for the wise words. I certainly regret selling the LP12, stupid fool I was. I'm likely to be doing a bake-off on a couple of Regas with an LP12 at some point soon. I like Regas, my first deck in the nineties was a Planar 1 so I'm looking forward to see how they perform in a Naim system. My only problem with Linn (if you can call it that), is the presentation which is a bit too musical for my liking, I prefer something with a harder and more transparent edge as befits the music I listen to. When I bought the CDX2 it really nailed it which is why I sold the LP12, but now as I say I regret it and I look forward to seeing how the passage of time has affected the LP12's core sonic delivery. Otherwise, I'm keeping a watchful eye on other forum members' own upgrades to see what should go to the top of my list :-)

Hello Jonners. Welcome to the Naim Audio forum. Please tell us a bit about your music collection, new album purchases and what you're listening to. The equipment is, after all, only a means to an end!

Posted on: 06 August 2018 by Jonners

Sure thing Clive. On vinyl I have a lot of 12", mainly from the 80's when I was very much into Goth and New Romantic type stuff so lots of Cure, Siouxsie, Duran Duran, Japan, New Order, The Sound, Echo & The Bunnymen, Au Pairs, Chameleons, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Psychedelic Furs - I think you get the drift. Towards the end of that decade I lost the eye liner and mellowed out a bit and some of these discs (which I subsequently bought on CD), are my reference albums so Black's first album is a staple of mine for example, as is Moonflower (for their cover of "She's Not There), Flag by Yello, Kick INXS, FYC's Raw & The Cooked, 9012 by Yes and I re-discovered Blondie's Parallel Lines, The Clash's London Calling and The Police with Reggatta de Blanc, all 3 surviving the test of time for my ears at least and really nicely mixed. Coming back upto date, (sort of),  I listen to all of The Smithereens (with 11 being my fave, though their cover of Bruce Springsteen's Downtown Train is great), Porcelain by Moby, Black Grape, Texas (Southside is a classic IMHO), Gossip, Lissie (Back to Forever is stunning), Ladyhawke's 1st album, Planet Funk and Radiohead (love The Bends). My recent purchases are all throwbacks to earlier Summer memories - Electronic's first album, Monaco, Morcheeba's Big Calm, Turin Brakes (The Optimist EP), ACDC's Back in Black and Primal Scream's Give Out But Don't Give Up.  I guess I'm a bit of an old sentimentalist at heart :-)

We NEVER wore eye-liner.

I may have got conjunctivitis but I was gorgeous ;-)

Actually, what I'm listening to right now as I type this is Kasabian's 1st album and I've got Hot Fuss by The Killers lined up behind it. Later, it'll be a bit of Bowie maybe.....

... but thanks for listening ...

Forget turntables, ditch that CDX2 and get an NDX2 in a few months

Welcome Jonners, sounds like you know your way around here pretty well already! Glad you’ve broken cover on being a ‘lurker’ in these parts, I’m sure you will feel right at home.

Posted on: 06 August 2018 by Jonners

I've had that CDX2 longer than my kids have been alive and it's less trouble I can tell you. I had been thinking of a service and upgrade on the 200/282 and getting shot of the SC for HiCap or SuperCap but now you've got me thinking....that's the problem with Forums....:-)

Don’t listen to those lunatics [@mention:76469591777888342]  They are all of course right - that’s why you should not listen to them, but let your ears decide what is best for your musical enjoyment.

Welcome to the mad-house called The Forum.
