ND 555 or NDS with 2 PS555.

Posted by: tonycurran1 on 08 August 2018

Hi all i saw the ND555 at my dealers on saturday they were already doing a dem so did not get to hear it

just out of interest members who have heard the ND555 how do you think it will compare to a NDS with 2 PS555

thanks for your thoughts.

Well Tony, I haven’t heard it yet, but I expect that an ND555 with one power supply will knock an NDS with two into the proverbial ‘cocked hat’. Would make no commercial sense otherwise!

If all goes to plan, I should be able to give you a more definitive answer by Saturday. A new music collection beckons!

Thanks David,

I am going to have a dem tomorrow and if i like it i will use it with 2 PS555

The ND555 is in a different league to the NDS, no matter how many power supplies are connected. Sorry, but it's true...

Hi picked up my ND555 this afternoon ( got £6250) for my Year old NDS

the rest of my system is 252 with supercap

B&W 803D3

nap 300DR

unity core

2 PS555 one is DR one is none DR

listing  with 555 and PS555 DR it did not blow me away but sounded good ( I know many hours running in is usual with black boxes so I am expecting it to get a lot better

i saw a write up by Naim about using 2 PS555 where one is Dr and one is not and he suggested ( I think it was James) that connect the DR PS to socket 2 on the ND555 this is the analog socket

now it is blowing me away sounds very much like a top of the range LP12

please try it you will hear a massive improvement in SQ

all my black boxes are on a fraim lite and are plugged in with power lines

and hi-line from ND555 to 252.

Not particularly impressed with ND555 needing 2 power supplies To sound optimal.

It’s been running for 8 hours now and it’s amazing

tryed it with just the one PS555 and it does blow your socks off

but with 2 ps555 the SQ is the best I have heard.

Not sure what one would expect from a Naim offering a second power supply upgrade? Tony, just enjoy.......it’s a bit special

Yes it is Gazza

i bought a 352.8 24 download from HD tracks the highs mid and bass is awesome.

ND555/555PS-DR/555P-SDR was a considerable way in front of NDS/555PS-DR/555PS-DR. Not particularly surprising given its price point.

The only way to answer this question for each of us is to do the dem. You're hardly slumming it with an NDS in the interim. It's as excellent now as it was last month.

I agree Harry

the only reason I decided to P.X my NDS was the £6250 my dealer gave me for the NDS and I already had the 2 ps 555

most dealers are giving less than £5000 if you P.X your NDS.

Blood hell Tony! That was a good trade in. I don't expect I'll top that.

Blimey I had no idea the NDS was so crappy. Still perhaps with my tinnitus I should stick with my NDS and enjoy some more music and wine. Give it 5 years and the 555 will be yesterday’s chip wrapper too

With the CD555 this would make sense... open the lid and you can get a generous portion of chips in there,  but the ND555 ?  There's nowhere I can see that could accomodate chips, not even skinny french fries.

Now, if you were talking about the HDX, that's a different story; many's the time I've said to her indoors when she's delivering my supper on a plate, "Just put it on top of the HDX, dear, it'll keep nice and warm on there".

PS - just realised, I'm going off thread a bit... sorry Tony.
