Naim Supernait 2 + Nap 200 DR or 250 DR
Posted by: Tramat on 12 August 2018
Good evening,
First of all, admin thank you for the admitting to the forum. My name is David, writing from the north of Italy. I own the integrated amplifier Naim Supernait 2 powered by the external power unit Naim HiCap DR, paired to Harbeth HL 5Plus 40th anniversary loudspeakers. Adding to the Naim Supernait an additional amplifier, the performances will really improve?. Which model of Naim amplifier between Nap 200 DR and the Nap 250 DR will be the right choose, please ?
Cheers,
David

I would advise against this combination. Please remember that it is a pre-amp that generally defines and shapes the sound. That’s why adding a power amp (as good as NAP 250DR) to SuperNait 2 does not yeield much of an improvent. The entire combo is being held back by the pre-amp section.
So if anything, I’d focus on the pre-amp first.
Gold eventi, Naim NAC 202 DR could be a good preamplier, in combination with the amplifier Naim NAP 250 DR ?
Cheers.

Unless you plan to upgrade your pre-amp later on, not really. NAC 282 (with HiCap and NAPSC) is a more natural partner to NAP 250. NAC 202 is typically paired with NAP 200.
Good afternoon, I am currently participating for an auction related to the pre-amplifier Naim NAC 255. How do you see it, paired to Naim NAP 250 DR, please ?

Do you mean 252? No problems there, as long as you can afford a Supercap.

Yes, it is much easier for us in the UK. You could try contacting Tomtom Audio in the UK, they may be able to help you. They are a reliable dealer with a good stock of used Naim gear.
The suggestion to consider a source upgrade is a good one.
Good afternoon [@mention:36201736949470193] , Tomtom Audio unfortunately has not replied to my e-mail and I have Discovery that this shop does not sales abroad. But I want to thank you for your advice, this is a huge Naim shop (new and "pre-loved") Cheers
You could try Signals Hifi at Trimley st Martin, they have used Naim and other brands, are a great dealer and will quote for international shipping.

NAC 252 is an excellent pre-amp. It requires a SuperCap to function, so you should also factor in a cost of that.
There are numerous SCDR available - there is one on a Polish auction site for just over EUR 2k. It’s a stock of a previous Naim distributor, so completely OK to buy.

Sorry, I thought Tomtom had sold to other EU countries in the past. Perhaps they are preparing for Brexit!
Good luck with your search.
No problem, at all, you are welcome. I think that for me could more easier to flight to UK, taking a look to the authorized Naim shops, and walk for the whole country looking for a Naim bargain. I am joking, of course, or not ?

Actually, I think that could be a good idea if you are prepared to take some time. Discuss it with some dealers first, and treat it as a holiday. Be careful though, if you buy items under warranty, as your local agent may not honour a warranty from a different country.

If anything - drive. You will not be able to take a 252 and SuperCap on a plane with you. The first one is just under 10 kg and a SCDR is around 15 kg if I’m not mistaken. And the boxes are just too large to be easily handled.
By far the best option is to have them couriered to your home / office address.
Hi Tramat,
If you sold your Supernait 2 and your Hicap DR for maybe 3,000 Euros you could then buy an Olive Nac 82 preamplifier an Olive Supercap and an Olive Nap 250 power amp for maybe 3,500 Euros and you would have a fantastic vinyl replay system.
Hi , not 100% sure if possible but could you not by eg a 282 and use your SN2 as power? Have limited experience of SN2 but in general I believe it is wise to prioritize the pre before power with naim amps.
That said and as already pointed out, looking at your sources might be the wisest move. That would in my experience include the use of rca-din interconnects.
The Supernait 2 is an excellent amplifier. If you want to improve the sound of your system then you need a better record player or CD player. Leave the Supernait/Hicap alone and spend the money on sources. Something like the Rega RP8 mentioned above, or a used Naim CDX2 would be perfect.
Good afternoon, I will focus on the turntable. Naim CD players unfortunately (in my humble opinion) do not support theSaCD format.
Good morning, finally I have decided to abort the idea of moving from my Naim Supernait 2 to separate components. It could costs a fortune for my finances.
I will invest my efforts on sources. Maybe I will trade in my CD/SACD player Marantz SA-14 S1 Special Edition for the Marantz CD/SACD player SA-10. Is there a good signal XLR / Din cable in order to interface this player to my integrated amplifier Naim Supernait 2, please ? Or it is better to use a common RCA/RCA signal cable ?. Cheers.

The best route is to use RCA > DIN cable (e.g. Naim Hi-Line).
There will be no benefit in using an XLR output, as Naim does not run a balanced architecture, compatible with XLR output-input.

Dear Adam, thank you for your kind reply. I will move to an RCA / 5 Pin Din connector. But ...... no Naim brand cable, more cheaper, are available for you ?
Naim can supply a phono to din interconnect for £115.

There are some cable manufacturers that stock RCA > DIN. Chord being one of them.
If you don’t fancy splashing out on a ‘fancy interconnect’ I’d actually start with Naim’s standard ‘lavender’ one (RCA > DIN) for now.
Chord's Shawline RCA - DIN is very good (I use it myself). Flashback Sales also make very good cables at sensible prices.
Thank you forumers for your suggestion. Cheers
Good morning.
After around two months of thinkings, I have decided to trading in my turntable Rega Planar 3 for the Rega Planar 6, complete of the MC cartridge Ania. Two weeks ago my reseller has proposed me a bargain: trade in my Harbeth LS5 Plus 40th Anniversary, including the stands, for an ex display Bowers and Wilkinson 803 D3. Moneys are vanished :-).
In the meantime, waiting to collect other money for the pre-amplifier, in order to power the new loudspeakers, as better as possibile , how do you see the option to add to my integrated amplifier Naim Supernait 2 an external amplifier Naim NAP 250 DR, in order to drive the Bowers and Wilkins in bi-amplification ?.
Cheers David
