Help needed identifying Naim Remote Unit

Posted by: d_mann on 23 August 2018

Hi, I’m new to Naim and this forum. I am having difficulty identifying a remote unit I have been given and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it for me please. It must be a CD remote although the CD player isn’t in the equipment that came my way. I have searched high and low on the internet but it doesn’t look like any of the Naim remotes I’ve seen.

Would anyone be able to tell me what the remote is actually called (if it has a name) and which CD player(s) it would work with please.

Many thanks

Hi, I can't see the picture.  Are you sure you have set it with your host to be publicly viewable?

Hi, yes I believe so. I am trying to find out how to edit the post so I can fix whatever is wrong.

Here is the url to the image which should open up OK. I created a flickr account to specifically do this.

Sorry for messing up on my first post

That's the remote for the Naim CDS (the original one, not the later versions).  I've still got my CDS sitting in its box on top of a wardrobe.

Hey, thanks Dungassin and thanks for overcoming my inability to post the image properly here. Do you know if it's compatible with any later versions?

Many thanks

I just get a 404 message saying the image I am seeking does not exist.

If it is a CDS remote then it may well work with later Naim CD players.

The early NAC52 had a similar looking remote but this was incompatible with other Naim kit as it used a proprietary code system unique to Naim.  After that Naim moved to using the Philips RC5 protocols.

Thanks again Dungassin for expanding on your original post. That CDS must have been a fine piece of equipment back in the day. Do you think there are many still in operation? The embedded image is definitely not working, probably due to my ham fistedness, but I have tried and my apologies, but the url is still fine.

Agreed.  It's been supplanted in my system by the NDS, but I've kept it boxed up as I suspect the amount I would get if I sold it would be too small to be worthwhile, and I might get the urge to use it again some time.  Kept my Nakamichi CR7 for the same reason.

My NAC52/52PS had the same type of remote (with different legends of course!).  Still doing sterling service in my younger son-in-law's system.

I had a Arcam cd transport into a Deltec PDM1 which had a very clean neutral sound for its time and IMO better than CD players and other systems at that time for the price. The CDS was a revelation for its time, it brought musicality to CD. Would love to compare one to the new offerings.

Snap - almost. I still have a Nakamichi ZX-7, apart from the Dolby C circuit falling victim to Orange Cap Disease it still records and plays wonderfully.
