Amp for Speakers
Posted by: Baconandeggs on 23 August 2018
Hello....I have KEFQ300 speakers can I ask if anybody can recommend good amps for these please.
Sure, what is your budget ?
My Kef LS50 was happy with XS, XS/FC2 and SN2
I have not tried with separates or lesser Naits but guess anything would work, can you demo ? Its the best
Budget and room are important considerations
sorry, what are those amps. I don't know much about the NAIM range, just that along with brands such as Arcam they are popular and good.
Here's an overview of the range: https://www.naimaudio.com/amplifiers
What is/are the source component(s)?
What are your listening preferences?
What is your budget?
New or s/h?
Etc... etc... etc...
KEF Q300 aren't particularly expensive speakers, any Naim amp will be able to drive them reasonably well, it's more a question of if you like the way that Naim electronics present the music (majors on emotional content, musical involvement and rhythm).
A used Nait 5 would be a good starting point.
Budget ? I don't know, maybe up to about a grand. If I like it I wouldn't care too much.

I like rock and pop. Mainly I listen to vocals, some of my favourite tracks are very good in terms of the actual music, but sometimes vocals, especially female, can sound a bit thin or even shrilly. Strangely the vocals of Abba songs sound a bit dull for them, but other female vocals and the likes of Robert Plant can be a bit thin, which I don't really understand. I'd prefer new, I don't like the idea of shelling out a lot of money on ebay for a second hand item from someone I don't know.
If you are buying new then you can go and listen at your nearest Naim dealer.
Start with a Nait (integrated) and see how you go. ☺
If you are buying used you can go and listen at many dealers as well, where are you located? Someone maybe able to make a suggestion of where best to take a look.
A pre-loved Nait XS v1 could fit the bill...
Buying used doesn't have to mean eBay I have bought used from Tom Tom Audio which gives a 12 month warranty on all purchases has a very large stock of used Naim, Audio T also occasionally have some used Naim.
Unless you know the seller or know the history of the device I’d be wary of buying Naim via eBay. Best via a dealer or private sale where you know the seller... and as said above a dealer will often provide some sort of support.
In addition to the dealers mentioned, I would add”Signals” who also carry a stick of used Naim gear from trade ins. Again you get 12 month warranty, worry free, and pretty good prices.
Don't forget Cymbiosis.
???? Baconandeggs,....You can also look at the Naim Facebook page..."Naim Audio Buy & Sell eg."
It is a group where you sell and buy used Naim equipment.
Many there are also members here.

Just for clarity, this is an independent page for Naim fans, not the 'official' Naim Audio facebook page ?
Since the last.....I have been using a squeezebox which seems to have bust, it is intermittently failing to connect and I have to keep setting the connections, mostly doesn't work.
On the SB forum they say it has a history of bad cards etc which could be the problem, in fact it sounds like it could be the problem, but cheap replacements from China etc isn't my cup of tea tbh.
So I'm thinking, reluctantly, of changing my amp now for something else to go with these speakers, it would need to stream from my PC or be able to use a flashdrive.
For streaming etc. the Naim Uniti Atom is an all-in-one solution. It streams, accepts flash drives, Tidal, Spotify, bluetooth etc. etc.
Just connect, add speakers and it plays.
However, it's usually around the £1700 price range.
But, it does sound extremely good to my ears!
I suggest you arrange a demo at a Naim dealer & take your speakers with a range of music you like.
