Does DR upgrade (me NAP250) include NA009 transistors?

Posted by: gramophone on 31 August 2018

2-3 months ago had the DR upgrade for my 250.2.

On the Naim Products page for this amp they say it "now includes" NA009 transistors (from 500) and also DR technology.

So as per heading, when I got it back refurbished from Salisbury did/does it have the new transistors?

Yes.

Thanks.

You're very to-the-point!

There wasn't really anything more that HH could have usefully added, from a technical point of view

Don. On the point raised Halibut has fully put my mind at ease.

But I do suspect he's holding back. I think he know's more than he's letting on.

Ah! Time for the Spanish Inquisition..................

.......come on HH, what do you know that we don't know, spill the beans

Gramophone, I suspect that what's really on your mind is .....

...." in what ways is a DR upgraded 250.2, inferior to a brand new native DR 250.2"

but as I say, this is pure speculation on my part.

I was focusing on the transistors tonight but you're still right as that has at times been something I've wondered about,

Though from what I've been told by informed people the upgrade pretty much brings it up to date. Tonight I just re-read the product description and their trumpeting the transistors there caught my eye. Hadn't really done so before. And everyone just talks about how great DR is.

If Naim called it something like a "full update" there'd be no doubt. I guess it's called what it is cos the DR tech is the massive star of the show.

A 250.2 upgraded to DR spec is the same as a 250DR. There is little more to say, which is why I didn’t.

Were the 009s not mentioned on the docket when your NAP was returned from Salisbury?

Without the bespoke precision matched NA009 transistors, a key part of the NAP250DR design, it would not be DR spec.....

my job sheet just said Assy 300DR, but YES as HH say's

DR upgraded 250.2 and 300 are identical to brand new originals as the modification is quite straight forward: The complete circuit boards are just simply replaced. I was even told by Steven at the time that upgraded units may even be better than originals as they take less time to burn-in..:]

Nap 500 too, it also includes a new rear plate with "DR" model designation

The 250DR uses NA009s in the audio circuit and NA007s in the voltage rail regulator circuit.

A 250.2 upgraded to a 250DR is exactly the same.

When upgraded, a "DR" sticker is applied to the rear plate, if an entirely new rear plate is not included.  My DR'ed HiCap and 555PS had such stickers applied.
