Leave the Untiy Core full on
Posted by: Thorsten_L on 08 September 2018
Hi there!
Besides more electricity use, is their any other disadvantage to let the Unity Core powered on instead of the stand-by (not the hibernate mode)?
I run a 2 TB SSD.
Thanks.
No, not that I’m aware of
I leave mine on as I have an SDD drive fitted internally.
Never tried putting it to sleep so can’t advise on SQ comparisons
Thanks.
If it’s a HDD then it will run warm as it will be continually spinning unless you put into hibernation. I always put mine into hibernation, hard drives do eventually fail, so I hope I am prolonging it’s life?
Hmm...How do I hibernate the Core? Pulling the cord seems to me the only possibility.
Press the button for about 5 seconds.....you should hear it shut down
I might be wrong but I was under the impression that Core went into some sort of standby mode of itself when not in use. Also with a NAS approved HDD in the Core, they will spin down when not in use for a period of time. Rich
If the Uniti Core is detectable in the App.....the hard drive is still spinning....that will be full on or standby. If you press the power button for 3 seconds or more it puts it into “deep sleep” you can hear a click as it powers down....it is now not detectable in the App, hard drive is powered down. To reactivate you have to just repress the power button, it then fires up again.
Ok...I pressed the power button and I hear a click. But its not to say if that is the Core going from standy mode to deep sleep or from deep sleep to stand by mode? for all I know., I do not think there is a visual sign ( in both case the power button is lit) whether the Core is in deep sleep ( is this the same as hibernate?) or in stand by mode. or is there?
If you hear the click and it’s not found by the App .....it’s in deep sleep.
According to the Support guide, the power light dims in deep sleep. The power modes are described in the First Time Installation and Setup section.
