Recycle Bin

Posted by: Quads on 11 September 2018

Hello,

I have a new USB backup for my Uniti Core.

Some files successfully backed up to this hd are ripped cd's from the Core's internal hd.

Other files (LP's) were successfully copied and pasted on to this new hd from yet another hard drive that I have. Also, a new folder was created and named for for these LP files.

All is well except when backing up new ripped cd's to the Core...

When I do this, the previous folder, with the LP's mentioned above are emptied of its contents and put in a folder called RecycleBin. All the files are present and unharmed as far as I can tell.

I could rename the folder at some later date I suppose.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks for any responses.

I haven't seen this but I think the Core likes to have an empty hard drive to which to backup and if you have copied files directly to the backup without going via the Core, perhaps what you have experienced is not surprising. Also playing around with the backup must make it moot whether a restore can work properly.

I suggest you save your LPs to the downloads area of the Core and then do a fresh backup, including formatting the hard disc.

The other thing to mention is that if the backup doesn't work the way I expect, restarting the Core seems to sort it out.

I think I will do do this, or something very much like it.

I agree that restarting the Core (hard restart if needed) has helped often times.

Thanks for your reply!

If you partition the USB drive, and keep the backup and 'LP' folders in their own separate partitions, I suspect this might solve your problem. If you have enough space on the Core internal drive, storing everything there seems like a sensible move, though.

I had this issue, secondary backup to Core gets upset if there is anything on it that the backup mechanism in the Naim App hasn't placed there. If you have LPs that you wish to place in the Core then use a PC and put them in the 'Downloads' folder in the Core. You will then find that when you backup your LPs they will get backed up correctly. Another advantage is that you can play back your recorded LPs directly from the Core using the Naim app. Have a look at Core questions and answers on the Naim website for the correct way to use the Downloads folder. If this helps...when setting up a new backup destination for my UnitiServe, it was very picky -- the folder had to be EMPTY.  By default, my nas would create a new folder that also contained a recycle bin, and that was enough to have the UServe not like it.  It really did have to be EMPTY to start.
