Progress bar getting stuck using Naim app

Posted by: pixies on 16 September 2018

I'm running the latest firmware of the Naim app but have experienced this intermittent problem in earlier versions and when using different streamers (NDX, NDS, 272) and from different NAS's (Synology & Qnap). When playing tracks using my iPad, the progress bar gets stuck or stops when the track is playing. Its a bit annoying and is resolved when I stop the track or move to the next one.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Yep does it for me too on Android.  I also no longer have a track list view - the button to select it simply isn't there.

I have the same problem with the progress bar (ND5XS, Minimserver, QNAP, iPad) and started a thread on the topic a few days ago but got no replies. I’ll be using the Naim app on my iPhone for a while to see if it’s also a problem there; not encountered it so far.

I had this issue with an NDS.  It appeared only recently.  When it happened the NDS stopped showing the current track’s details and reverted to a standby screen too.  All relevant soft/firmware was up to date and my network is a robust all-Ubiquiti system.  On the advice of Phil Harris I created a small local network and that didn’t suffer from the issue.  I was beginning to suspect that something else on the network was at fault (initial suspicion fell on a Ring doorbell) and was about to get into some proper troubleshooting when...  I traded in the NDS for an ND 555 which doesn’t seem to suffer from the problem (and sounds fairly extraordinary).  I hope that’s at least some help in confirming you are not alone.

Ok thanks so far. Seems not to be a common issue judging by the few replies. Jonathan what do you mean by a small local network? I have everything hard wired Ethernet to my Cisco switch in the hi to room and use AirPort Extreme and expresses to handle Wi-fi. I regard my network as fairly robust but as is the way with these things it’s often a network issue.

Maybe it’s time for a general reboot of the network?

Start with a reboot of the streamer.  Kill the Naim App...reboot the streamer....re-start the Naim App....see if that's all it takes.

Thanks Bart. All done and working ok for now. It’s been an intermittent issue for a year or so, so I expect it to happen again some time in the future. It would be nice to know the cause though?

Every once in a while, especially if I hadn't used my NDS for a week or more, I'd lose the now playing portion at the bottom of the Naim App, and/or no matter what I did it would only want to play a single track before coming to a full stop.  Killing the app and then re-starting the NDS always fixed it.  /shrug

My small local network was a spare router I had (with wireless enabled so the IPad would work) my server and the NDS wired to that, no switch, internet connection or anything else.  That was bullet-proof.  On the bigger network the issue recurred seriously often (every use more or less). I agree though that it must have been something very specific to my network because very few others seem to suffer from it.
