New app... Help! what have you done Naim?

Help.

Naim what have you done?

So not used the Naim app for a few weeks and had the emails about how Naim have upgraded the App to improve finding devices on the network.  Well tonight wanted to play music on the UnitiQute (v1 with 192 upgrade) and now the App crashes every time on starting (while searching for devices).

My network has always been solid and nothing has changed.

iOS app running on both iPad Air 2 and iPhone 7.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

It just worked once, stayed on screen a few seconds then crashed / closed.  I would “send crash report” but it crashes before even get the chance.

Any thoughts anyone? (except “I told you so” after all my positive comments about Naim App and network blaming - which I will check tomorrow)

Hi. Maybe a network reboot as well? Worth a go.

The fact it isn't working on either device suggests that a router restart and obviously a restart of the UQ is worth a try.

To make your iPhone or iPad forget the old setup completely you have to uninstall the app and then do a full restart of the Idevice, so home button and standby button pressed together and keep them both pressed until the apple logo appears, then let it start up as normal, then reinstall the app from the App Store.

If the app has crashed it may be worth forcing a restart on your iOS device. I have noticed a few funnies with the latest iOS version where certain network functions stop working.. (like tethering etc) and the only way to clear it is to do a restart on the iOS device... certainly worth a try if nothing else has changed.

If still stuck there are some basic steps you can do to demonstrate whether it’s  related to your home network... the easiest is using an iOS app called ‘Net Analyzer’ and if it shows a ‘U’ against your audio and Naim devices then all is well. Another one if you are more computer literate is to ping the SSDP  multicast IP group address on your home network 239.255.255.250 and your discoverable UPnP devices should reply.

I think David is on the money,  if both OS devises are crashing, it has to be router.   But if both iOS devises have the Naim apps open, ......  err ....  pass.   I can't have my iOS & Android open together.

But to Davids point,  I've had app crashes in the past where a delete, clear RAM (press Home & Off until logo appears) & reinstall has always worked.

Its weird ... its like its crashing before even looking for devices.  I've an old iPad Mini I'm resetting and can use with just Naim App to try.

PS. I'm mostly posting out of frustration rather than expecting any advice :-)

Nevertheless you should read the advice!

During beta testing I had one occasion that one of my devices crashed several times in a row but then fixed itself after several restarts of the app and it's been ok since.

If you do a full restart of the idevice as Mike and I suggest and then reinstall the app, it should be just the same as putting it into a new device. I have many active apps on my iPhone and iPad and the Naim app coexists happily with them. You don't need a completely empty iPad to make it work properly.

Also have some issues with the new app. Often the app loses connection and one needs to start it again. Also the update to the Ipad of where the song is is often delayed.

Hope Naim will fix this soon, it's annoying...

For what its worth, my experience of the new app has been OK - it seems to take a bit longer doing the network discovery, but gets there more reliably. Eloise, I concur that a full restart of your router and devices will likely fix the problem.

There is a new rev 5.11.1  in the App Store today.    Works for me,  not  that I had problems with previous rev

.1 calls out a fix for crashing!  Timely.

Again, the update did not show up for me until I searched for “Naim” and clicked on the app to read more info  — then the Update button appeared.
