NDX2

I'm interested in the new NDX2 streamer and the Uniti core. I'm presuming I can serve files from the Uniti Core through the inbuilt DAC of the NDX2?

How would this compare ( quality wise ) to a dedicated DAC?

I've read some criticism that the NDX2 isn't worth considering because of the lack of MVQ compatibility.

I would love to hear your thoughts.

One last thing how would the NXD2 compare to my CD5si player, quality wise?

NAIM don't offer MVQ on thier streamers - does this bother me, not in the least - personally I get more from the higher res files 24/48 and esp 96

what the NDX2 does offer is a future proof of higher res music than the current streamers offer, roon. etc I have heard the NDX2 twice now, and it's very very good,

I have owned an NDX since 2014 which I really like - Not sure you can compare the NDX2 to CD5si - what I can say from my own experince is I owned CDX2/XPS which i replaced with my NDX and don't regreat it for a single moment -

and YES the core will play your music files, rip CD's etc but so will a seperate NAS (except the rip)  your money your budget your choice, I personally use a NAS

what I would do is ask a dealer to demo NDX2 from what I know the new ND555 and NDX2 are on demo's with dealers, there is a lot of feedback on both streamers on here

Enjoy the Music

You can but that would be a disproportional waste of resources. If you directly connect a Core to the NDX2's DAC via S/PDIF you will bypass the NDX2's streming card. In this setup you are using the NDX2 as a DAC, not as a streamer. If, on the other hand, you use the Core to serve files to the NDX2 via UPnP then again you are wasting resorces. The NDX2 has a built in UPnP server and you only need to connect a USB drive to the NDX2 to serve music (via UPnP) to the NDX2 itself and to other UPnP renderers in your network.

Long story made short: if you buy a NDX2 you do not need a Core except for ripping. Ripping is anyway better done on a standard computer with proper support for metadata editing.

What’s MVQ?

I presumed it was the Meridian MQA, but I am probably wrong
