Qobuz app issues
Posted by: Alley Cat on 30 September 2018
Earlier this year an update to the Qobuz app on iOS resulted in a problem whereby a track would restart after playing for 2-3 secs.
As I have a few iOS devices I could confirm that this was unique to the new app, but they don;t seem to have fixed it despite telling me a fix was in the works.
I accidentally updated the Qobuz app on my iPhone X the other day when updating apps on my Apple Watch....grrrrrr....so now my main phone cannot play audio without these restarts.
Are others still affected?
This and failure to implement gapless playback are making me frustrated with Qobuz as I'd be tempted to get their hi-res Sublime subscription, but at present I don't see the point with audio glitches.
Old thread:
No hassles with the Qobuz app for me, whether on iOS, OS x or windows 10 or Squeezebox Touch.

It only does this when outputting to my Nova via Chromecast built-in feature - playback via Airplay to the Nova, on the phone itself or via Bluetooth to earphones works fine.

Still this does not imply that the issue can be attributed to the Qobuz app for certain. Have you tried to cast to other Chromecast enabled devices? A simple test will tell you whether the problem lies in the Qobuz app or in the Nova.
Qobuz and Chromecast on the new Unitis is a pit pants and flakey at best. Often looses connection, slow to start, no gapless and no artwork. This is the qobuz app as other apps work fine with Chromecasting to the same unit and display artwork.
Qobuz app rock solid on Android to Nova. No artwork though through Chromecast though - there is through DLNA.

So why not using the apps that work fine? BubbleUPnp, upmpdcli-qobuz, Linn Kazoo all support gapless replay on upmpdcli renderers and display artwork flawlessly. I am not a Qobuz fan and I have actually cancelled my Sublime subscription but, to be fair, I very much suspect the problems to lie in the Naim's software. I might be wrong, of course.

Not on the new Unitis they don't. Nothing does gapless witj upnp apart from Naims app on the new machines. Believe me I have tried as have others. I didn't buy an Atom to plug another streamer in to it. All other apps work fine with Chromecast it's just Qobuz that sucks .

I agree it could be a Naim issue, however the restart issue was definitely introduced by a Qobuz app update (it may be doing something differently that the Nova is then messing up however!) - I updated the app on the older iPhone 6 and immediately the restarting issue began whereas the iPhone X on older Qobuz software still worked fine with no restarts. The other day after updating my Apple Watch it asked if I wanted to update the Qobuz app on the Watch, typically it then proceeded to update the app on the iPhone X so I lost the older version which worked fine with no way to go back unless I might be able to find an older version in an older iTunes.
I don't have any other Chromecast enabled devices to test with, but I have a Chromecast Audio dongle which has not been used for a while - fairly suer the old thread said the issue happened with the dongle too.
I can confirm the issue of the interrupt for a second when starting a new song. I am using a Nova too and using the actual version of the Qobuz App. It does not refer to IOS version at all: Same failure with IOS 11 and 12. Also the Device seemed to be not the Problem: Tested IPhone 7+, IPad 9 and 12‘. AirPlay is no option if you want to benefit from Qobuz Sublime+ playing high res titles where the resolution is only supported by Chromcast! Also Network streaming is no issues: Locally stored albums show the same error. Had the chance to cross check with a NAD vault2, digitally connected to the Nova and playing from the BluOS App(integrates Qobuz too!): that works without any hassle. The difference here is: no album cover on the Nova display. With the Qobuz-Chromcast connection covers are shown on the Nova display: Is this perhaps the root cause of the pProblem? When a new song is started also the cover picture on the Nova is reloaded. From a timing perspective there might be a correlation...
So is here any help in software from NAIM? Building such incredible good amps and hardware ;-)
The BluOS app is in general not an option because the user interface is not acceptable for Qobuz navigation. The Qobuz app is not good but slightly better ;-)
By the way: I sent three times a support mail to qobuz without getting any answer.
Thank you Michael, I agree iOS version does not play a part as my iPhone 6 is still on iOS 10, and that was the app scuppered by na update ages ago. iPhone X was updated to iOS 11 with older working app, but I accidentally updated it when I agreed to update the Apple Watch app.
I assume the NAD vault2 does not use Chromecast at all, if it does it suggests Naim firmware isn't compatible with Qobuz and chromecast.
I e-mailed once and was told they were working on a fix. That was ages ago.
