Back in with a Supernait2....
Posted by: joeinid on 30 September 2018
Last week I picked up a less than year old gently used Supernait2 with HiCap ps from a great friend.
I know it’s not higher up the Naim food chain and a little long in the tooth technology wise but I absolutely love it. I had one 4-5 years ago and knew I made a big mistake selling it.
I have it hooked up to JBL 4312SE 70th anniversary speakers along with my Bricasti M1SE dac. What a wonderful system.
I was thinking about what to do and what to get and since knowing the history of this piece, it was an easy decision.
I'm still thinking about the future and what to do upgrade wise but right now I’m tapping my toes and loving what I’m hearing.
Gotta love Naim!
SURE HAVE GOT TO LOVE NAIM THE NEON GOD'S OF MUSIC
I'VE ONLY JUST JOINED THE NAIM FORUM A FEW HOURS AGO SO IT'S A MIRACLE ANYBODY HAS READ IT I'M NOT A TECHNICAL GUY I ONLY KNOW WHAT MY EARS TELL ME. FOR THE RECORD. I'VE GOT A NAIM SUPERNAIT 2 BI AMPING WITH NAP 155.NEAT ACOUSTICS SX2s I'M THINKING ONLY THINKING OF GOING FOR THE SX1 .SO ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOME. MUST HAVE 4 TERMINALS ON EACH SPEAKER THO
If the Hicap is non-DR, you may well find that the SN2 sounds better without it.

I’d gently suggest that you don’t write in capital letters, and that if you want specific speaker advice it’s better to start your own thread.
OK will do in future. How do I go about writing my own thread

I was thinking the same thing, although decoupling the PSU from the amp, and providing a beefier dual rail supply maybe outweighs the benefits of the built in DR?
Hi it's a bit of a minefield out there. Will sort it out. Not a problem many thanks guys
I’m fully DR’d if any of that was pointed at me.

Green button, top right, ‘Post’. Make sure you choose the correct part of the Forum, as it’s easy to get the wrong bit.

Excellent. The Supernait 2 is a lovely amplifier. I sold some SL2 speakers once and after about seven years bought some more. It’s like getting an old friend back, and it sounds the same with your Supernait. Sometimes things turn out for the best in the end.
Thank you HH. I follow your posts and have learned so much from you.
I appreciate everyone’s input here. It makes my decisions easier.
I’d never heard of Bricasti but having Googled it, the dac looks great. Those JBLs look amazing too, what with 12” woofers and those knobs. Very retro. I bet it all sounds wonderful.
Many thanks to all you guys out there
Welcome bluejays.
HH,
Yes, absolutely wonderful combo. I have some other speakers to play with (JBL 4367 and Revel Studio2) but these were setup already.
I’m thinking long and hard about the ND555 next year (hopefully) but I know it deserves a higher end front end. I still believe I’ll enjoy the upgrade.
Feels great to be back with Naim so I’m ecstatic.

Long in the tooth tech..!
Not even a Nait 2 is long, wonder what you exactly base this upon ?
Just the fact that it has been out for a while now with few changes. Yet, that’s exactly why I bought it. Tried and true proven technology.
I’ve tried a few new and “upgraded” gears and found they were horrible. Just like they say on pizza boxes. You’ve tried the rest, now try the best!
Easy ...
Today's technology tomorrow's history. We all think we've got something new.But the old ones come back to haunt you

The NDX 2 sounds amazing and I think it could work extremely well with the Supernait 2.
Would also love an ND 555, but for the outlay so many other areas in the system could be tweaked.

Makes perfect sense and I’m inclined to agree. I’m sort of in between systems but the Supernait2 is staying. I’m on the verge of getting super efficient speakers mated with single ended triode gear. A total departure from the traditional speakers here and what I have.
Whatever dac I do eventually get will need to work well with everything, basically.
I absolutely love my SN2 – but you know, this hobby being what it is, there are days when thoughts of "I wonder what a 282 would do..." creep up. I try to suppress them, mostly because going down the full path (282, which kinda demands a Supercap... and then at least a 250 to power) becomes such an incremental budget outlay. Once you sum all that up, I wonder: would that investment bring sufficient marginal improvement that I could still feel good, given how much I am enjoying what I have with the SN2 today (and my two little girls' college fund still requiring some work)?
To the SN2's credit, that has me quickly considering future turntable upgrades (not that the Rega RP6/Dynavector 20X isn't great – but likely not my 'forever' table) or even new streamers (will have to demo to assess what the NDX2 would bring incrementally to the quite compelling Aries/2Qute combo in place now).
Oh heck, I'm sure my local record store dealer appreciates that I'm spending the money with him instead on actual music.
Ha! Totally understand. We all want what we don’t have, at least that’s me.
Maybe someday ....

HH, "gently"? What's gotten into you?
p.s. This is the only successful conversion of an all-capper that I've ever observed on the ol' interweb.
p.s.s. Welcome to the world of Naim, bluejays!
Well it's amazing what you find out there
I've only been a member of the forum for a few hours. Never had so many replys. Cheers to all Green Nions
Hi Jopined. Food for thought all this helps me . Time for browsing. Bluejays
We are better in re-capping than all-capping. Tho this is only allowed to talk about in the context of a certified service centre - but now I know where the A stands for at Class A.
