Uniti Atom and AirPlay 2 via Mac computer

Posted by: GL on 02 October 2018

Hi there .... this is my first posting ever since I bought both Muso and Uniti Atom.

Am very satisfied so far. However I ran into problems after upgrading all my Apple computers and devices to the latest OS. When using ITunes on my Mac computer, the system can detect all my network speakers and list them all. I can multi room music to the Muso and others without problem except the Uniti Atom. It says error in connection and to check the network but as far as I know all setttings are working. In fact I can airplay from an old Apple TV to the Atom.  However it’s strange that AirPlay 2 can’t work with Uniti even though it’s working with Muso.

Any idea how to overcome this?

cheers

Is the Atom on the same network as the rest of the system, or is it only connected to the ATV that works OK? There should be no problem using the Atom with Airplay, so I suspect something on your network isn't set up quite right here.

Yes same network. I only have one. Is it due to AirPlay 2? However Muso is ok so not sure why Atom is not.

I just tried on my own iMac and Atom.
I can play my computer audio via Airplay without any issue at all.
Using iTunes on the iMac as the source, I can play to my Muso QB and Atom without issue.
My Atom firmware is 2.6.1.9794 with the Muso QB running streamer version 1.6.00 (if I'm looking at the right numbers!)

I’m not sure why this isn’t working for you. My Atom works fine over Airplay. As you’re playing from a Mac, you don’t need Airplay 2 for multiroom, just regular iTunes/Airplay should work. Is the firmware on your Atom up to date?

Don't recall they released an Airplay 2 update yet.

Thanks all. I manage to troubleshoot it. Turns out the Atom had a different DNS setting that render the Mac unable to connect to it. The Muso does not have DNS setting and so it worked. I remove DHCP and reconfigure with the right DNS and it’s working ng perfectly now. ????

Glad to hear you got to the bottom of the problem. I rarely use iTunes, but actually I find it works quite well as a multiroom source for Airplay clients, including the new Naim streamers.
