252 Jumping inputs

Posted by: Zipperheadbanjo on 02 October 2018

Last night my 252 started switching inputs all on it's own. At first, I thought perhaps the remote battery was dying and acting wonky... so I removed the batteries. The phenomenon continued. Then I powered down and back up again. The phenomenon continued. Then I powered down, disconnected and reconnected all cables, and the phenomenon continued.

Then I powered down again, this time including the Audience Power Conditioner... and I thought that fixed worked. Well it worked at least for a few hours as it was good for the rest of the night.

Then when I woke up this morning, I noticed the input selected on the 252 was not the input I selected before bed last night.

Any thoughts on further trouble shooting steps I should take tonight when I get home from work... or and ideas what the problem might be?

TV or other remotes ? Put tape over the remote sensor to eliminate remote issues.

Yup, check for any other remote control stuck down the side of a chair or sofa.

Funnily enough, I was about to post about a similar issue with my 282. My NDX is on the CD input, and I’ve recently connected a DAC to the Tuner input. The DAC would occasionally cut out, but actually, it was just the NAC changing inputs. Initially I thought it might be because the NDX was in use as a transport for the DAC, but was also still connected directly to the NAC, so I removed the lead, but it has just done it again.

There is no other equipment in the room, no TV, no spare remotes.

I agree that first thing I would do is mask out the IR receiver on the 252; then, if that solves it, figure out what is causing the IR interference.

I had a friend many years ago who had a similar issue with an entry-level Naim app (can't remember the model) and it transpired it was his plasma TV screen emissions that were causing the problem.

Good luck,

Allan

Thanks for the feedback!

Much better than what I was fearing.

You’re not using System Automation are you?  If so that’ll do it if it’s set to the wrong input. I know this first hand.
