Aliens shrank my speakers

Has anyone else noticed how new speakers have a tendency to shrink over time? This time last year my new ProAcs seemed absolutely enormous in comparison with the ones they replaced. Recently the impact on the lounge seems to have diminished to the point where I realised I’m actually beginning to dream of the feasibility of moving up to K8s were I ever to have an unexpected windfall! My wife would probably kill me, as this shrinkage seems to be very gender specific. She has been constant in her insistence that the K6s are far too be large and intrusive, although conceding they sound ‘very nice’!
Silly I know, and common sense tells me it’s simply familiarity changing perspective, but honestly, they really do appear to be much smaller!
As you say ‘shrinkage is gender specific ‘...SWMBO is unfortunately right on this occasion....
It's the new TV syndrome ...it looks huge for a week ...ok for a month ...small for the rest of the year...
When I first had IMF TLS50s, they were quite big (38”x15”x14”). Later, when I changed to RSPMs, with identical styling but about 4” larger in height and width 3” deeper, the old speakers seemed positively small - however within a few weeks the new ones seemed the same size as the old ones, nicely shrinking into place.
My TLS50s went to a friend’s home. Once when I said I’d be leaving the RSPMs to him in my will to be sure they went somewhere they'd be appreciated, his wife went up the wall, saying the ones they had were big enough and no way was I to do that. And she repeated that whenever she visited my house and saw the speakers! Roll on a few years, and I had just committed to purchase of a replacement, calling at there house on my way home from my speaker-auditioning trip, still with the RSPMs in my car used for comparative demos. I suggested swapping them with the TLS50s while I was there. My friend’s wife threatened all sorts of unpleasant things... but we persuaded her to let me bring them into the house and put them in place, saying there really was enough room and they don’t really look a lot bigger. And so we did, and she said they were far too large, though not quite as vehemently once they started playing. It was agreed (grudgingly) I’d leave them there and take away the TLS50s, but absolutely promising that I’d swap them back on next visit if she wanted. Not a word in the 2½ years since - I think they shrank into place.
I think the time speakers grow again is when you get old an feeble, and suddenly find they’re to big and heavy to move!
Don't know anything about aliens, but my speakers have been said to be like having a couple of Triffids in the room. You look away and then find that they have moved a little closer.
My wife thinks my Ovator S600 are huge (good job I didn't go for the S800, which I would have loved to do). If she ever said it was either them or her, I'd be rather sorry to see her go.

I’ve just looked up the RSPMs on Google - wow! They are pretty overwhelming, having the appearance of a small gents wardrobe. Compared to those the K8s would be a shoe-in!

Mmm... quite literally in my case! My floor standing Allaes shrunk into stand mounted Sonus Faber Olympica 1's this year!
But boy am I glad they did, these beautiful 'little' things are just awesome.
I find myself somewhat out of step with the OP's original premise, as, at each step on my journey through the estimable range of speakers from Neat Acoustics, they have continued to grow in size.
The current incarnation is almost as tall as I am ............... am I getting it wrong?

Nothing to do with the actual size of the speakers, Dave. More to do with perception over time. Do your 5’ tall speakers ‘feel’ as tall now as when you first introduced them to your room? I’m now on my fifth pair of speakers and, like you, the latest are the biggest.

Absolutely not. Speakers are supposed to be big if you want full range. It is down to the laws of physics. However once they’ve got big enough then somehow if they at first seem to be large in the room that ceases to be the case after a while.... all that matters is the sound!!!

Nah, if you want a gents wardrobe you’re better off with the Tannoy Westminster Royals!
My wife always referred to the RSPMs as coffins...
My Dynaudio Contour S3.4 have been shrinking steadily since I bought them 4 years ago. I solved the problem by buying a pair of Confidence C2 Platinum. They'll be here Monday morning. I'll need a bigger room if the new C2s shrink and I have to buy larger speakers again.

Don't you mean 'weeping amgels as in Doctor Who?
Chanelling Thomas Dolby methinks. They're more interested in Buicks and Sheffield. Speakers fairly safe, at least from an Asgaardian perspective. Depends if you regard me as an alien?
