Dedicated Spur advice please

Posted by: Docv on 04 October 2018

I have an friendly electrician lined up to fit a dedicated spur for my hifi. Could someone please send a fact sheet or link with recommendations for the cable gauge and fittings which I can pass to the chap. The consumer unit is already there.

Should I get 2 spurs? Thank you

Agreed, just ask another electrician. Your only going to do it the once!

It’s nearly done and dusted. The sparks are good guys and are here to sort out a load of stuff other than the spurs.

The last electrician I used put in the additional consumer unit but ignored my requests for the spurs and did not sort out the earth...that was 15 years ago during a new extension build!!

I will check out the 6mm result and if I want to try again with 10mm will do so at a later date...I don’t think that I am normally a pushover but round here skilled electricians are rare.

will post about sonic results in due course

Im sure you will be pleased with the results after a period of burn in. 6mm sounded really great and was a big improvement over 2.5mm. 10mm however gave another big improvement over 6mm. Its a real shame that your electrician won’t make the extra bit of effort to install 10mm now, rather than having all the hassle again later on if you decide to.

I agree, 10mm or the job should have been off. Not that skilled, if he can't do what a customer requests. No one is indispensable.

Day 5 of burn in...it sounds different but not really settled into anything consistent. I understand that the burn in period will be a matter of weeks but that constant playing of music is not required...just electrical connection.

I’ve ordered a Russ Andrews PowerBar and yello mains lead.

Will update when things calm down.

After an extended burn in period I am listening with an extended grin on my face as the system is singing away this morning, nicely cohesive and engagingly musical. I am realising just how good the Hugo is...upgrading the power supply side has been a huge success .

Thanks again for all advice and comments received.
