Is there a way to make an audiophile rack invisible?
Posted by: William on 04 October 2018
We are planning a move and our new apartment does not have a dedicated listening room. Is there a way to integrate a six-box system (four of which are black!) in an uncluttered open-plan kitchen/living area without it being a predominant eye-sore?
At the moment 252/300DR plus sources reside on a Fraim. Ideally, for the best WAF, the boxes would disappear in some kind of designer cabinet (or behind an invisible cloak!) but is there an uncluttered aesthetically pleasing solution that doesn‘t compromise SQ?
I have two stacks of Fraim that I get nothing but compliments on. If I needed to hide the system, I would go for a decorative screen or room divider of some kind.

There are dozens at the site above. If you have a budget for custom cabinets, these are a relative bargain and they should not hurt the sound as a cabinet would.
We use a danish hifi furniture system called ‘clic’ that comes in modules so you can find the size/shape that works, and it offers cabinet doors either in wood/solid material, or from textile. I hide my system behind textile cabinet doors and its open on the backside. This gives good ventilation. I never had fraim due to looks, so dont know how that sounds, however one could add glasshelves sitting on top of metalballs to further isolate each box from the shelves. I did not do that. Br Lars
You get a sense of what it looks like here - at least an alternative to racks that is intended for hifi systems and which works even with lots of burndy cables on the back. Br Lars

Your speakers are very cool Lars. ????????

At last, a man with taste and no visible black boxes. Very nice Lars thanks for sharing this.
Thanks guys! Its a very flexible system so for 4 boxes you can do with 2 modules on legs, each measure 60cm, so quite neat.
mike - very kind of you, i am still massively enjoying those speakers and its the first time people visiting give complements on my gear. For us its important as its in the living room where we spend most of the time together.

Yes, I’m a big fan of form and function, so in a lounge, great hi fi with great aesthetics. We have a wood theme, so went with this:
Very nice Mike - wow and what a view, are you mainly listening with your left ear as assume u r looking often out of the window :-)
I've been looking at 'furniture' options to hide the hifi and came across 'Audinni' and 'AV Soul' - 'Audinni' offer a variety of cabinets designed for hifi/AV with ventilation etc and do bespoke stuff too. 'AV Soul' do bespoke stuff. Not cheap (all relative, I know!) but quite like the look of some of their products. Both based in the UK (may not help William).
Some nice stuff there Dave. Worth looking into.
Yes, it looks good. Just had a look at the Danish 'Clic' furniture mentioned earlier - that looks good too. Looking at their website they have a lot of retailers who sell their stuff in Europe, including UK and Germany).
Yes even if I do decide to reduce the box count there‘s still a load of TV-related boxes to be hidden and I like their slogan - See Beauty, Hear Beauty, Hide Everything Else
Yes, it's a good slogan and (in my opinion) the furniture looks cool. I'm about to go down the box reduction route, so was looking for something that could I could 'hide' maybe two Naim boxes in rather than my current five boxes (NDX/282/NAPSC/CB Hicap/CB250), and possibly put my LP12 on top (or Rega if I decide to downgrade my TT) - although might need an isolation platform for that. Naturally, whatever furniture option I choose must have significant WAF (wife acceptance factor!)
My other half loves their web site
That's a relief! Haven't shown it to mine yet as she's out. Fingers crossed!
Not quite invisible but (IMHO) a neat way to integrate a high end system into a room without it dominating (See System Pics 2018 - page 9)
Wow! Very neat. And one impressive system the original OP has!
Mega!

I’m slightly less of hearing in my left ear, thanks to some Motörhead concerts in my youth. Anyway, I have a second lounge seat to the right of the photo, which is in the sweet spot between the speakers ????

Are the guns to defend the statements? Though probally too heavy to steal. Nice spa BTW.
