NDX2 first review here

stereoplay from Germany tested NDX2, outstanding 98 points total. 69/70/68 for 192/96/CD . NDS has 98 points as well, got 70/70/68. NDX2 was without PSU. Their reference streamer is T&A with 71/71/67 and 99 points total. Seems that Naim build a winner????????
As an NDS owner will take the additional one point on the 192 playback over the new NDX2, and also consistency over 192 and 96 formats, plus only 1 point each, off the reference streamer.
BTW. it's online.
Just click: Right!
It is interesting the NDX2 was reviewed without external PSU. I understood some effort was put in by Naim to really drive a top performancewith it’s native PSU in the case.
There is also a Dutch review with Lexicommultimedia online. The NDX-2 was reveiwe dboth with as withour XPSdr. The comments are very, very positive
in the meantime I am enjoying mine more and more every day. It is utterly good; so much detail and authority.
So, is an NDX2 with a SN2 looking like a better two box option than the N 272 and a 250DR? Thinking of that as a future step up from a Nova, though to me the Nova is a pretty awesome system in it's own right and outputs at 80W as well as the other options.
I have heard a Naim demo where the NDX2 /SN2 was clearly in front of the 272/250. The new streaming system is a big step up. I would even suggest you look at the ND5XS2 versus the 272/250 and see how you think it sounds.

That’s good to know thanks Gazza. How did the NDX2 / SN2 compare with your Nova? Trying to future plan whether that’s worth twice the investment of the Nova? Going full classic series multi boxes or 500 series aren’t really in my plans, so trying to find a sensible end point. I could move the Nova to the media room in place of the UC2/NAP100 and really bang that baby with the Hawks.
I also read the NDX2 review in stereo play, very positive and shocking how close to the reference streamers. I am looking forward to a magazine review of the ND555. Should be on the top of the list then....

Were any power supplies involved in the demo? Was it a rigorously conducted A/B demo, using exactly same connectors, cables, source etc? When you state ‘clearly in front’ are you able to give a little more explanatory detail? Thanks.
This was a Naim demo at the factory , with the NDX2 with/ without power supplies, both were ahead of the 272/250......as expected and shown by Naim. Standard cables....NAcA5, grey interconnects.....speakers were as previously mentioned in other posts a Focal Utopia.....not sure the exact ones, but about £27k. I did not like the speakers very much, but the difference Naim were trying to show was clear.

Mike, it was a very quick run thru, and the Nova was not compared. One thing I learned from all these demo, s that did not include my music was.....I need a good dealer demo with my music. It was the one and only time I have heard a SN2..... it sounded good, but I would need more time to form an opinion to pass on. Naim were trying and succeeded in showing a SQ difference, but you need to have more time to see if that translates into an enjoyable musical experience.

I strongly suspect it would be a very good combination.
The NDX 2 I demoed is in a completely different league to the Nova, which in itself is excellent value.

I certainly thought NDX/Supernait was better sounding than 272/250DR (with speakers that were not too demanding) so hopefully the NDX2 will be a further step ahead.
Comparison to the 272 / 250DR misses the point very slightly; good as the 272 is when run bare, it's when it's powered by an XPS DR or a 555DR that it really gets to show what it can do.

Totally agree Iver.
I find that my NDX 2 is getting better all the time.
Thought it was just my imagination at first, but now I'm sure of it, I'm hearing new things all the time coming through in the music.
