New Uniti Displays

Posted by: badlyread on 06 October 2018

Hi everyone

I am now back in the fold with an Atom after some time away (this is the all in one that I wanted from Naim 2 years ago) and it is a fantastic little thing. No NAS needed - internal SSD fitted into a caddy that is plugged into the back. The drive can be switched off so the Atom stops powering it. And all the other ways to connect music. Fantastic!

So to my point - why is there no setting to disable the display? I don't need to see what I'm playing most of the time. Happy for the proximity sensor to kick in when the get close but don't need it on all the time. Could this not be an option in a software update?

Apologies if this has been covered before.

Unfortunately Naim designers didn't  see it your way when they designed it. But quite a few people have complained about this mistake and the new network streamers do let you turn the display off, although it's not obvious  to do it.

Anyway I expect sooner or later this will get sorted.

best

I suggest you tell Naim of your feelings on this directly, as the more of us do it, the more likely it is that they will do something about it. Remember that this is primarily a discussion forum, not a support medium, so Naim may not pick up on such issues if they are raised here.

I think that the ability to defeat the display is in the pipeline for a future fw release.

Thanks for the confirmation Richard.

Have emailed HQ as suggested.

Many thanks.

The NDX 2 I've got on demo can disable the display during audio playback - it's not 100% perfect so far - the image disappears when the track starts but backlight remains on briefly so you see a grey screen.  If the device can disable on audio playback it would seem logical that firmware enhancements could enable it to be permanently off controlled primarily via the app.

I think Naim are missing a big trick in general with the Uniti displays.  Could be much more customisable (including the ability to turn off fully).

useful when changing albums for display to be on for a  few seconds then it a waste of time to be on.

Would be nice to know what improvements are in the pipeline ... I'll guess that nobody will know untill it's there ...

I have a 2011 Uniti that was upgraded and serviced in 2016. I always used to disable the display thinking it would help its longevity. It has now faded to the point where it’s almost impossible to see anything. Unfortunately, it is needed to change some settings as the app only offer limited access to certain functions. I wish better luck to the owners of the new generation of streamers.
