HDX not starting normally & ip* App N-Serv issues

Posted by: prc68 on 08 October 2018

Just got back from business trip and started up my system again, HDX remains in "starting" but doesn't actually start!
This is the 3rd time it's happened.

Issue 1 HDX not starting:

1st time went to the great local naim distributor and they sorted it. Was told that it was probably due to a bad shutdown, which I doubted.
2nd time they told me what steps to take to fix and it worked.
3rd time I just tried the fix and now working.

Basically every time I shutdown the HDX, when I bring it up I have to go into the bios and tell it to load the Naim defaults, save and reboot. So I am guessing the HDX has a CMOS battery which needs replacing. Can someone confirm this?

Issue 2  ip* App always syncing music

Just noticed on both the phone and pad that the N-Serv is "synchronizing music library.." every 30-40 seconds. IIRC this would happen on startup and when adding new files or playlists, but not every 30-40 seconds.  What might this be?

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

I think that's very likely the reason why it's forgetting the defaults. The dealer could change the CMOS battery for you, but I recall a post by, I think RJStaines, which explained exactly what to do. This was maybe a year ago, not more I think. If you can reset the bios then I guess you will also be able to change the battery. (But only if you know what to not touch when you are inside and can take the normal precautions about electrostatic charge.)

I'm not sure about n-serve syncing all the time. If it were me I would fix the CMOS battery first and then see whether I still have that problem.

best
