Can/would Naim DR a NAP V145?
Posted by: rackkit on 18 October 2018
Just wondering out loud. Guess only Richard Dane can answer this one.
More likely a question for Naim service dept, but I think I know what the answer would be.
I don’t know. Best ask your dealer or the factory service dept. I have my doubts as there’s no NAPV145 DR and so I can’t see R&D getting involved just for one unit.

Maybe R&D might fancy a bit of Friday afternoon tinkering/hot-rodding?
Always wondered how much they differ internally to a regular 250 which (I think) the design is based on.
Could also knock up a DR upgrade kit for the n-SUB amplifier as well why they are at it.......
Could work, but I very much doubt it will happen.
Come on guys, this will not happen ...

Don't ask, don't get!
My guess is that anything is possible if you have the money. I don’t know what the Naim manhour rate is but to modify the DR kit, install, test and then resolve any potential issues does sound like a bit of work. It might be cheaper to buy a statement now!
Depends how you are using the 145. You could always get a decent cheap used 250, and DR that, then use it as a single channel amp with the right cabling. I used to do that with the centre channel in my AV setup. Much easier to sell on the 250-DR later as well...

Using the 145 as a centre speaker in a 5.1 set up. Yep, there is always the 250 DR route as you say.

and you'll only need one.

Better ask Naim directly and let us know the answer ... :-)

Hi James. I’m using a NAP 145.
I think he is asking what is the centre speaker, not what is driving it?

Oops, late night (morning) posting caught me out there! Sorry, James, the speaker is a Naim Axess centre.

...as all good people use Mr Rackkit! Regarding the 145, I'd certainly ask. AFAIK, it is indeed one half of a NAP250. Not sure about the transformer but that shouldn't make any difference to the DR conversion.

Ah ok. Just thought if it was non Naim then you could have bi-amped the centre with a 250DR to make use of both channels. Good luck with your DR quest
On the subject of DR, am I right in thinking that any Supernait 2 will be DR, or was that something that was only introduced at a certain point and the earliest Supernait 2 may not be DR? I think the earliest Supernait 2 date from about 2014. I'm looking at a possible second-hand acquisition but so far I can't see that any of them have DR on the back where you normally see it on other DR amps.
All Supernait2s have a DR type regulator for their pre-amp power supply. Remember though that the power amp is not DR - that starts with the NAP250DR.
