lost

Hi chaps not been here for a while. I'm about to audition a S1. I've got on The Pretenders new album ... how much more can you get from this on Viuyl? It sound incredible now
Vinyl and the first album not new!
I'd take a nap and re-think your strategy ..
Put a penny on the tonearm head. Stop it going all slipping on ice.
..or phone the Vet.
or put up a card on some visible places around where you live
I'm lost
So you are thinking of buying a S1 to make a Pretenders record sound better. Have I got that right?
Either I have gone mad or the rest of the world has.
Yours, very confused, of Chesham.
You could probably get the “pretenders” to play in your living room one night for less than an S1.
I don't think the Pretenders are that pricey these days.
My dealer demonstrated for me a Statement system, phasing-in the pre and power amps against a baseline 552DR/500DR. The most impactful change for me was when the S1 replaced the 552 while still powering the 500. The additional insight into the music just made me laugh at how good it was. The Statement mono-blocks gave a further performance lift but on that comparison I was left with a very positive impression of how good the 500DR is.
I've been very pleased with my 552, and still am, but the S1 is in a different league. Do tell us more of your impressions, N16NPS
Statement audition advice seems to be make sure you have the brass in pocket first.
Please let us know how it goes.

I would perhaps adition a cheaper preamp making room for a mighty fine turntable in the budget
No idea if the vinyl sound better than cd record, why don't you just try audition it or be clearer in your next message please
The devil is in "The" detail. The OP is talking about a band called 'The Pretenders' maybe the posters to this thread are confusing it with a band that Chrissie Hynde leads called 'Pretenders'.
I think the OP wants to play a new/old 16 rpm record from a 50's band called 'The Pretenders'. That's my guess.
As the OP asked this question over 13 hours ago, has had several responses and has not come back, I offer the following explanations:
He has gone out for the day
Decided he doesn't need an answer
Decided we are all buffoons and has sought answers elsewhere
Decided he will/will not buy a S1 regardless of any response from us
Has been apprehended
Is playing with us
Any combination of the above
Pick one.
Given the time of the posting and it’s clarity I wonder if he might have been over-refreshed when posting it.
Yes, I was going to add that as one of my alternatives, but thought better of it.
Or the S1 might have fallen on him and the emergency services are engaged in manoeuvring heavy-lifting equipment to rescue him.
I’m sure Pete has a good reason. He must have lost track of time while listening to some music(probably still enjoying his R2R) in his superb man cave. Good to hear from you, Sir.
Ah, OK, so he is a genuine bloke. Apologies.
His original post is still baffling though.
It could have been the excitement of the prospective S1 of course.
- Solid state preamp
- Ultra-linear frequency response
- Preamp inspired by Little Mark II and SA 450

Hi Tony thanks for the back up ???? I was a little refreshed last night so apologies for not making too much sense. What I was trying to say is ... after putting on an album that I haven’t heard for quite sometime I was amazed at the quality of my present system. I’m using a 552 with active 300s playing through Ovator S800. My source last night was a tricked out LP12 so all top end stuff. I was commenting on how much better can the music be? Will the statement take me to stratospheric levels. I won’t know until I hear the S1 in my system but perhaps I should stick with what I’ve got, but this ever present nag to keep pushing the limits is all consuming! The R2R is still going strong ????

Thanks MDS your insight was what I was looking for. The 552 is an incredible pre amp and to better it The S1 has to be miles better to warrant such a considerable investment.

Pete, all is now clear, stonking system you have there.
I have vowed never to come on here while 'refreshed', but I still do.
All the best.

I managed to avoid hearing a Statement until I went to Munich this year where fortunately, with the speakers that that were used, I left with no feeling I was missing out. DBLs active with 500s at a superline launch event haunted me for years.
