Atom - should this be left switched on?
Posted by: Atom/Iota/Kan Stands on 20 October 2018
I know many people leave their Naim equipment switched on all the time, but I how about a lowly Atom? Should I?
I switch mine off after every session and I do think it gets better as it warms up (or maybe it's me getting warmed up...).
Is there any kind over fire risk, or risk of overheating?
Any thoughts?
I still love it, it's outstanding!
???? Atom/iota/kan stands,....
◾Switched on all the time:..Yes.
◾Is there any kind over fire risk,or risk of overheating?..No.

I turn off my kit when not at home and in nights, if not playing for days,no need to take risks
On or standby ?
Standby if server mode is not active is pretty much zero.
Recently I truly left my Nova powered 24/7, changing the standby setting to never, the display switches off after 20 mins.
My UQ doesn't have a standby to my knowledge
Display is set off after around 10 seconds which is enough for me
Standby mode will not keep the Atom ‘warmed up’ as it only keeps a small smps live, with everything else switched off. Whether keeping it powered on all the time produces an audible (to you) improvement, I don’t know. Why not try it for a week or so and see what you think.
???? Atom/iota/kan stands,....If you are looking for the best optimal soundquality, never turn off your Atom.
After your burn-in period (around atleast 3-4 weeks 24/7),..so let your Atom stand on.
If you turn it off,it usually takes up to three days for it to perform optimally.
If you turn it off every night,..Well then you have not yet experienced how it can play..Boring for such a quality product.

I never turn my UC2 off, but it doesn’t have a standby mode. My new Nova does, like the Atom. Currently I leave it in standby (never deep sleep), but wondering now whether to put it to “never”, as the consensus has always been to leave the amps on.

Likewise. Only switch off when knowing will be away for least 3days... (I.e. vacations)
I like to keep my amps, TV etc on at least stand-by to reduce stress on electronic components at startup and to reduce the cumulative effects of expansion and contraction on components and soldered joints as the system returns to working temperature Rich
I found standby is fine versus 24/7 (10 days).
The separate smps for standby mode was first introduced in the Statement amp, I wonder if anyone has listened for any improvements with one?
I leave my Atom "off" or rather, on standby. I only unplug it when going away for more than a few days.
We keep out Atom on standby when not playing, we only pull plugs when we go away for a couple of days or longer. No problem at all.
I Say It Again,..If you are looking for the best optimal Soundquality,.NEVER turn off your Atom…Not even on standby.
????If you turn it off,..it usually takes up to three days for it to perform optimally again.
If you hear no difference between an always-on 24/7 Atom, and one that you turn off every night.....
Well then you have done something wrong in your installation of your...
◾ Atom.
◾ Speakers.
◾ Speaker cables.
◾ Ehternet cables.
◾ Switch.
◾ Mains-Power installation.
◾ etc, etc...
You can of course send your Atom to ClassA,.or Naim for recapp after 12-15 years.
So,..what is the problem with leaving your Naim turned on to get the best soundquality..I don't understand that.
That's well why we buy expensive hifi equipment,..To get everything that goes in soundquality.

It may be best advised to fully read your manual that came with your Atom.

Well that won’t take long, you only get a quick start guide. Beyond that, you have to go through the clumsy process of searching the support pages of the website, which is a very poor substitute for the old pdf guides in my opinion.

Ok, that sounds a bit vague, probably goes to explain why the OP is asking advice here on whether to leave their unit powered up or not. Maybe ask the dealer?
Common sense and climate issues, just turn off when away, nights or not listening.
Nowadays kit gets quite fast on song
No need to wait 3-4 days.
My nova goes to deep sleep on Sunday night then I wake it up Friday am so warmed through for weekend listening....
I turn my equipment off when I’m on vacation or there’s a possibility/reality of a thunder storm.
