Unitiserve recurring BIOS fault

Posted by: John F Mills on 26 October 2018

Several times, my 2TB Unitiserve won't restart after a power interruption (dreading flashing logo). It's been to the (excellent) local repairer (John Ong at Sound Gallery) here in Melbourne who has to keep resetting the BIOS settings to get it to work. He's replaced the BIOS battery but the problem keeps happening. I've resorted to buying a surge protected UPS to (hopefully) stop it happening again.

Apparently, this is a well known problem with early Unitiserves. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Send it off for a board replacement. There is no user-accessible "fix" for the UServe board.

I should imagine a board replacement will be uber money, perhaps time to move to a more modern solution, small form factor pc would do a fine job I am sure.

Indeed!  It may suit better as a paperweight at this point in its life cycle unfortunately.

Just had the same issue with my Unitiserve, just over 2 years old, back with Naim for repair, £320 standard warranty repair charge. Wouldn't buy one again, expensive for what it is, will likely sell when it comes back and buy an Innuos or something else. Hindsight is a great thing, perhaps Naim should stick with what they are good at, servers unfortunately appear not to be their area of expertise.

Thanks all for your comments. What exactly would need to be replaced? The PCB?
