Building my own stand. any recommendations for spikes?

I'm going to build double bases for both the Star and my turntable (Rega P3). One stand made out of 12mm toughened glass cut to size standing on Naim's ball feet like those used on the Fraim. The other stand I am thinking about using some spikes and was wondering if you guys would recommend any particular ones?

Do you have access to a centre lathe for turning metal?  I have made my own spikes using stainless steel threaded bolts and from scratch.  Satisfying exercise all round.

There are actually loads of fairly high end spikes for DIY audio furniture if you search online.

Krypton make very good ones last time I checked. Not cheap but then none of the ones aimed at DIY audio are. They are popular for people modding domestic furniture when they have been vetoed on a rack.

I found some low cost spikes at Richer Sounds which I used on a CD rack I made. It looks like they're made from brass or similar.

Track Audio makes some nice spikes

I did the same type of thing a few years ago.  It made a very significant improvement in overall sound quality but I just used cheap spikes from a well known auction site.  Not sure what improvement you’d get from the very expensive spikes.  They are designed to do a very simple job yet one is being asked to pay a lot extra to cover the cost of marketing and a posh box.

100% on looking at the selection of spikes from the flea-bay,  absoulutly no point (pun indented) in paying silly money.    Looking at the selection is appears most are speaker sized & might be a bit chunky for a component shelf.    If I were doing this I would go for ball & cup,   but also only 3 feet per shelf,  3 cannot rock,  milkmaids stood etc.

Spikes tend to come in two sizes, but my recommendations would be that they have a screw thread, locking nut and that they are pointy/sharp

I was thinking of doing a double shelf, one standing on 3 Naim ball and cup on top of another one which would stand on spikes. But it sounds like just one shelf should be enough?
