QNAP Nas backup - Backup Station is really slow

Posted by: Bart on 29 October 2018

I use Backup Station to do my incremental backup onto an attached usb 3.0 hdd.  Even though it's incremental, it seems to take much longer than it "should."  With about 1.2 tb of total music, if I've added say 12 albums, it nevertheless takes 24 hours, or a little more, to do it's thing.  I have it set to "check file contents" which I BELIEVE means it's truly doing only an incremental backup.

Do any of you QNAP users have a better system for backing up to an external drive?  Maybe an app better than Backup Station?

I use backup station and it speeds along but I don't go to usb disk it pulls from USB on my Roon server to NAS then up to cloud a few hours later. Maybe the drive is faulty. Are you definitely using a usb3 port

This happened with a previous software upgrade, but was fixed with the last one. Now there is a new one, I wonder if it’s gone funny again. I back up to two USB drives by pressing the blue button on the front.

Hi HH

Which blue button? I have a USB drive always plugged in and have back up station backing up weekly on schedule and I then to a separate backup every 3 months by plugging in a separate USB drive into the front port and do "backup now" session via backup station. Sometime I have to create a new job on backup station . I have a QNAP 251+

Bart I have a smaller collection (about half of yours). Yesterday did a full backup on an attached USB drive it took max couple of hours.

I normally have the incremental back up mode on the QNAP but I never cared to check how fast it was.

funny thing I tend to listen lately more to Qobuz/Tidal and physical media (LP, CD) rather than stored music so the QNAP is mostly off (unfortunately too noisy yo be near the rack)

Mine is a 253A, and has a backup button on the front. I just plug in the drive, press the button for two seconds and off it goes.

I did an incremental back up today of my roughly 300gb of tunes, did have more new albums than you. Took less than 20minutes to our external HD. I have a QNAP TS212 running the latest software.

Something's not right on my end.  I'll try a different usb drive.  At least this one does have my entire collection on it!
