Editing metadata in Naim app

Posted by: canphan on 31 October 2018

First time poster so please be kind. Just got my Nova up and running two nights ago and I've been loving it so far. Literally my only complaint is the lack of album art for the majority of the CDs I have ripped to a WD 2TB USB drive. Naim product support shows the "edit metadata" fix for this issue but when I access the ... menu for a given album "edit metadata" is not one of the options presented. I've done (what I hope is) a pretty exhaustive search of the forum archives but can't seem to find an answer to this question. Anybody have any ideas?

The interesting thing is that when you've drilled right down to a specific album and you select the "book" icon it goes out and finds album covers, liner notes, pictures, reviews, etc. Unfortunately it doesn't keep any of that data.

Thanks for reading.

I think you will find that the edit facility applies to the Uniti Core, which is why you don’t get the option. If you want to get the full art and metadata I believe you need to put your albums onto a nas and use a upnp server. You won’t get the art from a usb drive.

The little books are provided by Rovi, and are nothing to do with what is stored in your drive.

Wonderful, thanks for the quick answer. I've still got my old headless mac mini with JRiver installed. I'll fire it up with one of my backup drives and see if that does the trick.

This; the edit metadata function in the Naim app is ONLY for use with Naim servers (rips performed by the Naim server and saved to a "store" set up by the Naim server).  Use dbPoweramp, Metadatics (OS X) or another metadata editor for rips you've done with a pc or other ripper and saved to your nas.

Are you viewing the music through the Nova USB input on the Naim app? If so, metadata may not be visible. Instead you should enable server mode in the app settings. Then go to the server input, and find the music there. With any luck, you will be able to see all metadata including artwork, assuming the files actually contain it? Where did the music files originate?

The info you see when you hit the little book icon is from an online lookup, it is not the metadata contained in your music files.

To the OP: Considering some people have reported issues in this forum regarding the screens' brightness fading over time I wouldnt worry too much about the metadata showing on the Nova (unless it doesnt show on the Naim app either). Once Naim (hopefully) releasse firmware upgrade to allow user to enable screen switch off during play I intend to do that most of the time.

Thanks for all the input, folks. I couldn’t get my old Mac mini JRiver installation to work properly (could see and browse the albums but nothing would play) so I trashed it and installed MinimServer instead. Works like a charm.

Excellent! You can always look at a nas in the future if you need more capacity.
