nac 282 and headphone amp

Posted by: oey on 31 October 2018

Would like to know if one can connect a headphone amp (other than Naim Headline) directly to a NAC 282. If so, to which socket and what kind of cable is necessary? What is needed If a direct connection is not possible?

Thank you

You can connect to tape, av or aux 1 using a five pin Din plug. You need to ensure that the plug is wired so that it uses the output pins. If you look at the back of the 282 you will see a picture showing the pins. Chord Co and Flashback can supply the necessary cable.

...except, you can't do that, because they are inputs.

Signal has to taken from a REC Out, so Tape, AV or AUX1. Make sure they are enabled, no Unity gain enabled on AV, and that the Rec circuits aren't  muted.

If you don't want to get a custom lead made up then the Naim or Chord Tape interconnect will work just fine - you just connect the REC In RCA Phonos to the Headphone amp.

Thank you so much. Very useful to know

That easy?? So no need for an extra power supply? Maybe only as an upgrade path, later on?

i used this method to good effect. cable was relatively inexpensive.  picked up on an auction site.  but in the end i used the RCA outs on the NDS into my headphone amp.  i found the music better this way.

A power supply is not needed if the headphone amp is self powered. As you excluded the Naim Headline I assumed it was not an issue.

Of course. How silly of me... It is a self powered amp: either the Byerdynamic A1 or the Violectric v-281.

All you need is a din to phono lead. Simple.
